Which head on my L28, E88 or E30....

Hey everyone,

I'm going to build up an L28 for my zed, and i have two heads to choose from. An E88 from an early L24, or a fuel injected (it has the notches) E30. I can't find much info on the E30, it has a small kidney shaped chamber and small valves. It looks like it could have a higher comp ratio than the E88, but the ports and valves look smaller.

Considering they will both need bigger vales and a new cam, which one do you guys think i should use?

Isnt that what most of the kids say when they hear about the idiotic crimes on the news these days?

If you express insensitivity by not changing your username, I can say I will be unlikely to help. Otherwise I will be happy to help.

The E30 head wasn't delivered to the US on a Nissan product if my memory is correct (which is often not) so most of us don't have any information about it. Maybe one of the folks from Europe?

The E88 head works on an L28 block but the compression can be too high for US fuel. If your E30 looks like an even smaller combustion chamber then the E88 then your might have some problems with fuel in your part of the world. Try ccing the combustion chambers of each head to find out if the E30 actually has smaller chambers.

I know the E30 has visibly smaller ports, and i've just learnt that it will probably not be able to flow enough to make decent power. Even with a higher comp ratio. So it looks like it's the E88 for me... At least there's plenty of info on them......

I plan to get her running on unleaded, so i can use the 98 octane stuff. Are SUs alright with unleaded or does something need to be done to them? I know i'll need new valve seats and stuff, but i'll need new valves anyway...

Any other aussies got their Ls running on premium? Any dramas?

Hi everyone. This is my first post on this forum. Up until now, its mainly been limited to zdriver.com. Anyway, this happens to be a subject which I've been studying greatly and would like to participate in. Unfortunately I'll join the boycott unit someone changes their name!
