Guest balcar
Ok, planning on going with the Modern Motorsport coilovers, but someone said I should go ahead and get the 280Z strut tubes for my 240Z first because they are bigger. Anyone else heard of doing this? Thanks Phil
gramercyjam
Some of the more expensive racing shocks won't fit or fit very tight into a 240Z strut tube and some 280Z tubes are a bigger OD/ID so yes, I have heard of this. Not sure what year 280Z tubes you need though for the bigger ones. I measured several sets that I have lying around and they are all the same ID/OD. Wagz
I'm not sure what you would be gaining by going to the 280 strut housings, but for what it's worth, I just sectioned my 240 housings and installed coil-over kits on all 4 corners of my 240Z and no problem with fittment. Tim240z
I went with the 280 housings, not really for the struts, but rather for the stronger companion splines. Tim

I did upgrade my stub axles to the 280 stubs because they're supposed to be stronger. I didn't need to upgrade the housings, though.
Tim240z
I just grabbed the entire housing and bolted it in. Tim
A. G. Olphart
Tim, did you have any trouble with length? (Someone said 280 rear struts were longer than 240's... besides the taller mounting insulator). Is the spring perch the same distance from the axle? Inquiring minds, and all that. Tim240z
Hmmmm...I'll have to go out and measure. I'm running coilovers, so ride height is adjustable. The top isolators are taller for sure. Tim
mike240zt
280 strut tubes are larger in diameter and height.
preith
I put 280Z struts w/Ground Control coilovers on my 240 as well. The 280's are taller, but with the popular shortening (front cartriges in the back) it doesn't matter. After sectioning them, I just went off of the 240 perch specs and it came out perfect. I beleive the rear strut towers are actually taller on the 280's as well.
