when upgrading the stock twins do you have to go single turbo or will say Twin T04E's or other same size turbos fit in the engine bay of a 70-78 Z?

so will upgraded twins fit?

thanks

You can go single, but it would be the easiest to upgrade to HKS 25/30S turbos, which have identical driving characteristics down low like stock turbos, but mid-range and top end is much better. Each 25/30 turbo is rated at 350HP.

Also HKS GT-RS are even better, same characteristics, but more expensive.

well the reason i asked is because after i take my L28 to the limits im going RB26.. and i already have the injectors, Stand alone EMS, and one T04E turbo.. so i was just gonna add another to the RB.

You would have to go much smaller on the exhaust side. There are companies out there that will take the stock turbos and bore them out. You could get the stockers modified to support 600+HP.... cost about 700 per turbo. If I don’t go single I will go this route. It’s much cheaper since you can still use the stock manifolds and existing exhaust. Just upgrading the stock turbos to metal turbine wheels gets huge gains do to the ability to raise boost.

hmm what if i just used my turbo.. like just the T04E.. would that work? could i even except any good power ganes with that turbo on a RB26?

i already started to save up for this swap.. i have about 3 grand saved up so far, so im doing good.

thanks

hey on3go we have the same plan. Im just staying L until I get sick of it, not happening anytime soon :D I like the idea of just changing out exhaust wheels to steel but stock size for the good spool and getting stock comp side machined out to take a slightly bigger wheel, but hey 392hp would do me fine for a long time...

i guess i could always just change my turbo i have now and run 2 of them... yummmmmmmm. 500+ rwhp :)

I wish I could get an RB26DETT, that'd be sweeeeeet. but, for now I am stuck with the L28 (and soon, ET). A sweet single on the RB would be a T66. I think you could get the kind of power you are looking for out of a turbo like that. I saw, in person, a T66 on a KA24DE. it put down 505RWHP, I saw the dyno chart.

as far as how far the L28ET can go on stock internals, wasn't Zcarsmakemyheadhurt laying down in excess of 400rwhp on a junkyard block? 11.2 in the quarter in a 280zx? its all about proper tuning

ya thats Alex... he is building my L28ET for my Z.

theres a few others running WAY fast times, alot you dont hear about.. Mad-Max (aka turbo-) comes to mind with his old maxima running stupid fast times with a REAL small price tag..

DAMN!!! I always wanted to do that, get an old maxima and paint everything black and tint the windows, llower it a bit and hide a sick L28ET in there. talk about sleeper. I bet that thing is a real sleeper. 4 door, lol! must be fun to pick on rice in that thing! lol I used to have a maxima, 1981 model. lets just say stock performance was less than inspiring.....
