Guest Phil1934
I'll get the engine dropped in over the holidays and was wondering if I need to slot the motor mount stands for a 350 with HEI, and if so, how much and which way? I don't want to drop it in, look, then pull it to grind.
GAZRNR
When I did my JTR kit installation I slotted the mount towards the fire wall because it looks that way in the book, but found that there was no way to get the GM HEI dist in. Also the motor was right up against the firewall and trans was cocked towards the right rear tire. Pulled the motor and slotted about a 1/4 towards the radiator. Got the motor lined up but still had a problem with the stock HEI fit so I went with an MSD dist and had no fitment issues. I could have ground an arc in the hood latch to get the GM HEI in but I already had it mounted & painted. Hope this helps Rusty
Mikelly
I would recommend slotting about 1/2 inch in either direction. This will allow you some adjustment. Use some star washers and torque everything down afterwards and you should be good. I also used Nylanuts to help with worries of loosening... Guest Phil1934
Sounds like I just need to slot to the front as much as possible. I have the short pump, so if i can get the HEI to clear the stock latch with a little trimming or hammering, that would be the way to go. I don't see ever needing to pull the distributor more than the height of the drive gear to set timing. How does the T5 shifter fall in the console? Plenty of room toi scoot things forward an inch? HICKL
I slotted mine forward as much as I could and used every bit of it to clear my HEI. As far as using the stock hood latch, I think you will create more problems than you will prevent. I tried to find a way and finally gave up and fabbed the JTR model. Just my 2 cents Jeff
MY260Z
Phil, I fabbed the JTR latch also it works fine and has a removable portion. My T5 shifter sits about middle of the hole in the tunnel, and a bit to the left. I broke down and bought the trans bracket from JTR so I could get it to line up. You should be able to move it an inch forward.
SpeedRacer
I don't know what transmission/linkage you have but don't move it to far forward and have the shift lever in the wrong place. Also, if you already have your driveshaft you better measure the length. On my car I used a small MSD distributor (I had to because of the Tri-Power setup) and moved the engine back about one inch. I have a SBC with a T-5 and the shifter came up right in the middle of the hole just like the stock setup.
