fl327
Way I see it, some people like to race their cars on the weekends, some like to enter them in shows. I personally take pride in the fact that I rack up miles left and right on something that I built, and that I fully understand the good of this is that I enjoy this car everyday, the bad part of this to me is that I have to tune more conservatively and sometimes have the other not so cool part of having an old skool comes into play, like lack of power steering and ac or power windows. I take the good and the bad together, and I keep driving. Mitsubishi makes great turbos, they just need to put a car together around one that can dish out the pain, like a rwd EVO or something. auxilary
Don Manzo (dmanzo57, where are you!?) has a perfect hybridz daily driver. He drives it from gilroy to sunnyvale daily (about 60 mile round trip) and it has a 383 with ~450crank hp, running 11.6 at sac raceway. Phantom
My nearly daily round trip in the LS1 / T56 280Z is only about 32 miles. It has won a best in class and a second place in class at local car shows plus has turned a 12.9@110mph on the strip. The only day I haven't driven it in the past several weeks was one morning when the headlights wouldn't come on. They self-repaired somehow that night while I was trouble-shooting the problem - go figure. I generally won't drive it on days when thuderstorms are predicted as I don't want to risk hail damage and I have the luxury of another Z that I can drive in its place that sits outside all the time anyway. I do hate to leave it at home, even on those days, because then I lose the opportunity like I had last night to totally embarrass a C-5 driver who picked on the wrong little foreign car. BayAreaZT
I've been using my car as a daily driver since I got it. My commute is only 20 min so I can live without the creature comforts of a modern car. My wife disagrees with me on the Z being a reliable daily driver though. Being a 30+ year old car not fully restored, there are bound to be minor repairs that need to be done. Since I don't have a garage right now some repairs take longer than they should and that makes the car un-reliable to her. So like FL327 said, I have to tune the car conservativley and resist turning up the boost or I'll never hear the end of it if I blow the motor
