z-ya
Anyone running 245-45ZR16s on all corners? I'm planning on running 5" backspace 16x8 wheels with coil overs. Any high speed stability problems running a 245mm tire on the front? I can run 225s on the front, but I would like to be able to rotate them. Thanks, Pete
johnc
An 8" wide wheel sounds a bit narrow for a 245 width tire if you're doing track stuff. I was originally planning to run 245s on 9" wide wheels. There are some old pictures on this site of 245/45-16 Hoosier R3S03s on 9" wide Monocoque wheels. Search for posts with me as the author and the topic was probably MSA flares or something like that. I have no high speed stability problems (140+) running 275/45-16 tires on the front of my car. z-ya
I guess since most every ITS Z car I've seen runs 225mm tires on 7" rims, I figured a 245mm would be fine on an 8" rim. The rim to tire width ratio is actually better runnig a 245mm tire on an 8" rim than running a 225mm tires on a 7" rim. Pete
JMortensen
I'm running a 250 on an 8" rim and I want to go 9" or preferably 9.5", but I'll need flares despite the coilovers. They work fine, but I'm sure that the tires will work much better on the correct size rim, plus I can get a little more offset to widen the track a hair. Never had any instability at speed problems since getting the bumpsteer issues fixed. Jon
blueovalz
I ran 245/45ZR16 on 8" wheels (all four) for quite a while (it was with a stock suspension). The 245 was a perfect fit on the 8", but I have found out since that not all 245 (or any size for that matter) size tires have the same section width. In my case (Comp T/A), the section width was only 1/8" wider than the outside edge of the wheel.
