Guest 73TPIZ
Thanks Tim, just did the edit thing. Yea Aaron, a little different. I just hope she's a lot different come March. Rufus, its a 305 out of an '86 Trans Am with the factory Tuned Port Inj. I'm putting a shortened (-7") 8.8 out of a Ford Explorer in it. Mine won't be as involved or as nice as MikeKZ's but should be a lot less wiggle in the rear than before. Had a chance to look/drool at Mike's in Sept. Very nice. Take Care
EvilRufusKay
Right after I posted I thought...I wonder if he is the guy doing the 8.8 As I said in an earlier post I was considering using the same type. But you said "solid axle" 8.8's are IRS are they not? I am confused. What year exploder and is it LSD?
Forrest
Those are some blue blue skies! Good luck man, steady progress is the key.
Guest 73TPIZ
Actually 99% of all 8.8's on the road are solid rears. Only the last couple of years of the Explorer, the Cobra ,the few thunderbird turbo coupes and Mark VIII's around have IRS. All Explorers till ~'02 ,the V8 mustangs and V6 Rangers had solid. With the zillions sitting in JY's, some places are still asking $400+ for them. Found mine for $250 with 3.73 and Posi. '95 up Explorers have disk brakes but i got the older drums on purpose. Doesn't make sense to have 10" disks on front and 11" on rear . that would need one hell of a proportioning valve. I actually bought and had the guy install a 3.27 gear when he cut the housing down. My TPI makes great TQ but ain't sh!t for HP ( i shift @ 5K). i kept the 3.73 just in case but my old R200 was 3.70 and she was almost out of breath at the end of the quarter mile. If/when i build the 355 or 383 she'll run out of breath even before 5K, hence the taller gear. Anyway, I'm rambling. gotta get to work, gotta get to work, gotta get to work,....................
