Guest iskone
That sight seems to have good things to say. But I would have like to see some numbers and not just lines on a graph.
Afshin
There are a lot of factors that relate to 1/4 mile run and while 1/4 mile numbers would be nice, remember the job of a limited slip is to spread traction to both wheels, not to improve the time (that's a secondary outcome). Depending on the car weight, horsepower, torque, front wheel or RWD, tire....the same LSD may effect the 1/4 time buy a lot or by a minimal amount. It is not a good measure of the LSD quality. Those graphs do a much much better job of showing how well the LSD is doing it's job or not (i.e., spreading traction to both wheels equally). As such those graphs are a better way of displaying the efficiency of a LSD unit, which was the point of the review.
Guest iskone
When I said I'd like to some numbers what I was thinking of was how RPM's the wheels were making. The other measurment could be distance traveled by the vechile. So the graph would be Wheel RPM x Distance. Some numbers like that would really make a difference in understanding just how well it works.
wheelman
iskone, The graphs in the review showed actual wheel speed in RPMs. Each lline was one wheel and showed that the wheels were effectively turning at the same RPM with the PG installed where as one spun while the other rolled without the PG. What your asking for would just show how much the tires slipped relative to the pavement. This wouldn't show the performance of the PG but the traction of the tires. The whole point of the LSD is to transfer power to both tires in such a way as to reduce uneven power application to the ground. If both tires are spinning there's nothing the LSD can do, it's already performing it's function. Ken W.
Drax240z
Has anyone actually used one in their Z and can give us an indepth review? I'm curious to know how it is in the corners, seems that since it's a locker type and would be better suited to straight line accel, though it sounds like you can tune your breakaway torque slightly using springs. JMortensen
I don't know for sure about this, but it seems to me that in a previous post there were pics of the mating surfaces and this was not a locker. I know it looks like one of the little "lunchbox lockers" like an EZ Locker or a Lock-Right that you would get for a 4x4 that takes the place of the spider gears, but I seem to remember a friction surface in the middle of the 2 plates, not teeth like a locker would have. I would imagine that anyone who had one would have complained like hell if it was a locker. If you've ever been in a 4x4 with an EZ or Lock-Right you know what I mean, clunk BANG, clunk BANG, clunk BANG around corners. FWIW, a friend of mine did have an actual Detroit locker in his R190 in the back of a 510 about 10 years ago, and that thing was FAR worse than a 4x4, probably because there aren't leaf springs and shackles to isolate the clunking from the chassis. I swear the first corner he went around I thought the diff had to be in a million pieces in the middle of the street. VERY LOUD. He took it out after driving in the rain and trying to exit a freeway off ramp that had a sharp turn. Only took one... Jon
John Scott
My PG has been in for a few thousand miles now. Had forgotten I put it in! Can't give a good report on track racing out of the corners, strictly street for now with my Z, but when I'm not too busy trying to keep it straight I can always see two black tire tracks following me. After the initial few miles, no clunks or bangs in the corners. Mine was ordered from HybridZ member "SCCA". Already had the stiffest springs PG had availible. My install was to grind inner surface of blocks slightly. Didn't countersink spring holes similar amount since I would prefer more pressure on the unit. After talking with PG about thier vague instructions, it sounds like a little tighter or looser fit is irrelevant. I doubt the perfomance of the PG is as good as an expesive limited slip, but for the $$ its great to be rid of the one wheel smoke shows. Looks more like a funny car when it comes off of both tires.
