z-ya
Anyone running 5" backspace 16x8" rims, coil overs, and 245-45ZR16 tires? Any lower perch to tire clearance problems? I measure about 1/2" between the wheel and lower perch. I'd like to run 245-45ZR16 Toyo RA-1s. Acording to Toyo, the overall width of the tire is 9.6". The overall width of my rim is 9", this leaves 0.3" overhang on the inside and outside. Seems like I might be cutting it a little close. I can go with 225-50ZR16s, but the diameter is a little taller tan I wanted. Any suggestions appreciated. Pete
Tim240z
Pete, I am running 16 x 8 with 5 inch BS and 245/45-16 tires. I am running 8" coilovers and have removed the OEM spring perch. I have ~0.25" clearance between tire and spring. Tim
Ruben
Tim, What's your clearance between the tire and fender? Did you have to roll the fender lip? Ruben
Tim240z
Did not need to roll the fender: Tim
blueovalz
My experience with lowering (1.5") springs on stock perches was a max of 4.6" BS to center the tire between the lip and the spring perch, which allowed about 3/8" on either side of the tire. BTW the front and rear "centering" is different by what I could tell was about 1/8". I know, that's only fly shit in pepper, but when I had my 245/45ZR16 on mine, I needed as much BS as possible. On the custom wheels I had 4.56" BS on one end and 4.44" on the other end (too bad I can't remember which end was on which) which prevented any rubbing, inside or out. Also remember, the tire sidewall will flex in and out more than one would think in a high G turn. .
gramercyjam
My car has 16X10 rims and tires with 5" backspace on the rims and coilovers. I have 1/2" spacers on the rear and 1/2" + 1/8" spacers on the front and I think I can see daylight between the lower perch and the tire if I squint just right. Fronts don't rub with some minor fender rolling, the rears required major bashing out of the fenders with a sledge.
74_5.0L_Z
I am running 245/45/16 tires on the back of mine (kumho victoracer V700) on centerline 16 x 8 wheels and 5" back space without any problems. I have the Ground-Control coil-overs on all 4 corners. I have also run 245/50/15 Dunlop SP8000 on the rear with no problem. The 16" wheels give better clearance than the 15" wheels. z-ya
Tim, what brand and model tire are you running? It looks from the photos that your car is just a little lower than stock, correct? Would this explain why you didn't need to roll or cut the fender lip? Thanks, Pete
Tim240z
Pete, I have not set my ride heights yet, but I have jacked up the car on the control arms with the spring adjusted at the bottom, and the tire clears. I need to corner weight the car still. I am running Falken Ziex ZE-512s Tim
