Guest 4.3L 280z
After my oil pump in my L28 went out on the first ride after 3 years of working on it I found a rebuilt 4.3 out of a 90 blazer for $350, I'm getting a 700r4 in a couple weeks so I can get it on the road again. My question is which position would be better for 50/50 on a v6? Because in the jtr position the motor is in the same place as a 350 but minus 2 back cylinders. I'm thinking of making my own crossmember and mounting it back like a 350 would be. I was thinking of setting it back because I will eventually be putting a super charger on it with a blow through settup like I believe John Scott had. I was reading some of his old posts and I think one said with it back his weight distribution was 48/51 front/back. And please don't tell me I should have went with a v8 cause this is going to leave more money left over for performance parts and there is lots of parts available for it. Even alluminum blocks. gmgoodwrench.com You can tell me to go v8 after I smoke you at the strip 8) lol
jonzer12
Don't forget you have to line up the tranny too, see what kind of play u have there first
David K
I was thinking about using a GM 3.8 v6 in the zx. Does the 700r4 fit right on the sucker? I would go as far back to the firewall as possible. You mention adding stuff later, and itll all have its weight toll. Id rather have oversteer than understeer. gramercyjam
It can't be 48/51. Maybe 48/52 or 49/51?
Guest 4.3L 280z
whoops, 49/51. The 700r4 goes right to the 4.3. I don't know about the 3.8 I know that the intakes are interchangable. I'm pretty sure its going to line up with the rearend just fine. What's the best way to get it right w/o the driveshaft? What is the room for error? Also what month was it that hotrod did the 4.3 buildup? I thought I had all the issues but couldn't find it.

Guest 4.3L 280z
also I'm going to wait to mount it until I get the tranny just getting ideas
Clifton
I would put it as far back as you can. If you supercharge it you will end up with traction problem and wish it was back further.
Scottie-GNZ
whoops, 49/51. The 700r4 goes right to the 4.3. I don't know about the 3.8 I know that the intakes are interchangable. Guest 4.3L 280z
I was thinking of the 3.8 3800 series chevy engine but I may be wrong
