dsommer
I was searching through older posts and ran across a serious “issue†I have with my new AutoPower rollbar. I had them add the shoulder harness mount tube to the bar it runs horizontal between the front “feet†of the bar about 3" above the "feet" however an older post cites that the mounting position of the shoulder belts (5pt harness) cannot go down but must be horizontal to the drivers shoulders (dashes and slashes are the shoulder belt O=roll bar) Yes seat-----------Obelt to roll bar NO Seat* * * *O Harness mount tube on rollbar is down here. Well shoot my diagram won't post right Has anybody had an issue like this with AutoPower roll bars? Also if you have an AP roll bar installed in your Z could you e-mail me a pic or post one here? Thanks, David
BillZ260
I have the std autopower scca bar that has like a 1" wide 16ga pc welded between the driver side veritcal pc and the cross bar, and it is at shoulder height.
Guest bluex_v1
Not quite answering your subject line exactly...but useful all the same: FIA: and this may be of interest to you: http://www.corner-carvers.com/wiki/index.php?Notes%20on%20Race%20Car%20Harnesses
dsommer
The guy at Livermore performance told me that “thin†piece of metal is for a helmet restraint. I don’t think I would wrap two 3†harness belts around that because it’s too thin for support. Is your bar mounted in your car already? Bluex, Thanks for the info, is that diagam in the SCCA rule book or??? ds
BillZ260
Yeah, but easy enough to remove. After reading that article, I guess the strip is a bit too "LIGHT DUTY" for your shoulder straps, I only assumed. I really have no clue to this stuff, it is all very new. I do want my car to be safe though. So do I need to add a bar? Why isn't there one std if they call it a SCCA bar? It looks like this... So do i need to add a TUBE below the Helmet restraint? JMortensen
I sold my Autopower bar to Auxilary. I added a bar for the harness and tried to get it as close to level with the seat back as possible. Worked really well. I don't know what that thin piece is for, but you can flex it by hand once the bar is mounted. I wasn't going to trust that thing to hold my belts. If you email me I'll send you some pics, or you can PM Aux, I'm sure he has some too. Jon
jt1
I've got that same Autopower roll bar. I don't know what the intended use of that flimsy strip is, but I sure wasn't hooking my belts that POS. I cut it out, and welded a 1 3/4 bar between the rear down bars to attach the belts. I set it 2" below my shoulder height with me sitting in the seat. Putting it between the rear bars rather than the front ones lets the seat go all the way back, and doesn't interfere with the diagonal brace. Guest bluex_v1
Bluex' date=' Thanks for the info, is that diagam in the SCCA rule book or??? ds[/quote'] It is from http://www.ompusa.com. It is/was FIA regulation..I can't tell you if SCCA follows it as well because I don't have a rule book, but from what I've read it seems FIA is typically more safety conservative.
