2 questions...LT1 self aligning roller rockers and T56 quest

#1...If I want to put 1.6 ration roller rockers on my 93 LT1 what else to I have to do to the valve train if anything?

 

#2...Ok if I am going to use a T56 manual transmission in my car is there a switch or something that I will need for the pedal? Cause you know how with a manual you need to have the clutch pedal to the floor for the car to start. Or is this eliminated on the computer or some other way???

you MUST use narrow body roller rockers (self alineing) on an LT1 and in most cases stock valve covers willNEED the internal drippers drastically shortend, both crane and comp cams make the NARROW BODY roller rockers, btw in some cases the pushrod slots will need to be lengthened for clearance.

As far as your other question goes, cars didn't even have that feature till the 80's or so, and I can't stand it anyway. Just put the car in neutral to start it. Saves wear and tear on your crank thrust surface. As long as you wire up the starter to work directly off of the key switch, you will be fine.

The LT1 looks for a pedal depression yes, I dont know if thats a function of the PCM or somewhere else in the wiring.

 

If you use non self aligning rockers, you need guideplates and hardened pushrods. I believe the LT1 got hardened pushrods until 96. You will also need new valve springs since the 1.6 rockers will put them near bind, especially if they are old and you plan to rev it up a bit. LT4 springs will be good for .525 lift (barely), so you should be ok there, and they are reasonably inexpensive. I am not sure if they are the same diameter.

Didn't do anything to the Computer. I *think* that that the switch is part of another harness, not the PCM harness.

As a matter of fact, the thing fired without disabling the VATS. It didn't want to run more than a couple of seconds, but that was another issue. I disabled the VATS later anyway. Must be the way I have everything wired up I guess.

Hey Tim240Z, I thought I heard that about the LT1's and the VATS. That you could fire up the motor but it would run for more than a few seconds??? Can someone back me up on this or am I crazy?

I don't believe that it was the VATS that was causing the dying after start. After I disabled the VATS, it did the same thing. I unplugged the MAF and it was purrrfect. So I can only assume that the MAF is bad since when it defaults to speed density, it runs fine.

So all in all, I don't think that the VATS was ever in the equation ( :confused: ) There's a head scratcher for you.

Either set will work. I'd go for the 1.6's for alittle more lift. I've got the Crane Gold race rockers on mine. They are also self aligning. I got the LT4 HOT cam package(but bought all the parts seperately from members on the www.camaroz28.com forum). If you haven't visited that website yet, it's pretty much the best forum web for F-body/LT1 stuff.

 

Many guys like to use the regular style rockers with guide plates and hardened pushrods like Mudge said. But, I used the self aligning type since if Chevy would warrenty them in a GrandSport Vette, then they can't be so bad.
