Guest ON3GO
this might not mean much to anybody on here but i thought i could share something that really hit me today. ok here i go.. I am always looking for things or ways in this world that will make me be truly different then most people. i dont know why im like this but i like not being like every other 20 or 21 year old is. i like different music, different clothes, and i act different, and most of all i drive different cars then most kids my age. i truly think that these old Z's are just the coolest cars out there. here i was driving along on FM1960 here in houston, a pretty big and busy road just doing the speed limit and listening to my music having a good old time. it was hot as hell but i still had the windows down, A/C off, and left arm hanging out the window when all of a sudden a here somebody yell out "hey man, guy in the blue car".. when i slow down abit and look over to the left i see this 55 or so man giving me the thumbs up. i smile at him and nod my head and hear him say "i had one of those when i was 18 and wish i still had it, that sure is a beauty".. now i have got this before and always say thank you and drive off but today was different.. i said back to the man "thank you, do you want a closer look at it?" and he said sure.. so we pull over into the mall parking lot and the man and his wife come over with him saying again "man thats so pretty". all i could say was "thank you but it still needs alot of work to be anywhere near perfect" this is when i heard the most wise comment ever describing a Z, he said "who cares if its not perfect, its yours and different then any other car out there, you see those new vettes and big time money porsches, they all want to be something like this Z right here.. Different." at 1st i didnt think much of what he said but then it hit me, no other car out there fits me so well then these old Z's. stock, mild modded, or all out wild, it dont matter because its still a old Z. So we got to talking and i offered him a ride and he said sure but then i said what the heck "you want to drive it?" he kept saying no but after a few times telling him i dont mind he said sure. when we got back from the short drive all i saw was a HUGH smile on this guys face, and that alone gave me one. after abit more talking we went our own ways and on the drive home all i noticed was ppl giving me 2nd or even 3rd looks, from guys in riced out hondas to a very hot young lady in a new C6 vette , all i could think was man im a Z guy, ill never own anything but these cars. anyways thats my little story for today, i must say its way more fun driving these cars then having them sit in your garage. even if this blue Z isnt my baby "hulk" Z in florida, its still a badass ride that sometimes doesnt want to start and that has a fuel problem and alot of other problems but i dont care. anyways keep on Z'ing guyz.. Mike 100% Z guy
EvilRufusKay
Great story Mike!! I applaud you for making that guys day, week, month and year!! Most people are self-centered and selfish. Don't loose your optimistic outlook with age.... trust me it's very easy to do.

Synlubes
So we got to talking and i offered him a ride and he said sure but then i said what the heck "you want to drive it?" he kept saying no but after a few times telling him i dont mind he said sure. Mike 100% Z guy Good for you Mike, but. . . having a few more years on ya, I`m not so trusting of people anymore. Thankfully there are still good people out there (like the members of our little peice of syberspace here ) and the guy didn`t steal your car or kill you and dump your body some where (joke, kinda). All I wanted to say was be careful out there and thanks for being "one of the good guys".

Guest subdermal
very good story... I'm a lot like you in that regard, always wanted to accentuate my differences. I had an opportunity to spend a fair amount of money on a car. I'd always wanted a sportscar but never had one. I started looking at my options, and I'll be honest my dream car had always been a porsche... I had dreamt of owning one for years. But then I saw a hybridZ in the paper... I've always liked the looks of the early Z body, and the idea of one with a 400 in it was too much to resist. As I said to my girlfriend at the time, "any jackass with some money can go buy a porsche... this car is for jackasses with some creativity!" hehe. Since then I've spent about what I could have on a sweet (used) Porsche on mods and upgrades to the Z, and I'm way happier with this than if I had bought a showroom 936. Thanks for sharing your story, it made me and I suspect many others who will read it here smile.
Guest ON3GO
well my my "dream" car is also a porsche.. a 1977 Type 934 (its pure race car in street car look, and mean!!!) but ill never own one for a few reasons, 1: im sure ill never find one forsale as they only made 10 that year and was only made for IMSA, and 2: i wouldnt have the money to buy one lol. i do want to build a replica of that car one day though... but yes anybody can buy a car, its just so cool to have somebody ask you "where did you get that car from" and u say "i built it" and they say "whoa, cool" thats why i cant wait to drive my green Z, but i cant wait to i finish this blue Z too, because im doing the motor work, and etc to it! but like i said before i could have owned a nice new WRX STi and had mods on it but who wants that... its going to go out of style sooner or later.. not our Z's though! mike
datsunlover
I know the feeling man. Driving an ol' Z get ALL kinds of looks. When I picked up my Z last summer, I remember this one guy staring at my car as I passed him. It looked like crap (well, I guess good from 30 feet away though) and wasnt running well, but I pulled away from a green light and happened to look over to the left: Heres this guy in a flashy looking little import, and hes just STARING at my car! Jaw on the floor, almost stoped in the middle of the intersection! I gave him a smile, the nod and proceded to mash the throtle to the floor. A good feeling.. till 30 seconds later when it died/sputtered and I had to pull off the road for some "tinkering under hood". But I was still feeling all proud of myself with my Z!
