DaleMX
I am interested in doing this, so I am documenting my actions as I go. Here is my start. This is nothing more than a plan at this point and I would like anybody with knowledge of the subject to review this and blow holes in it if you like. http://www.circuitflex.com/Fusible_Link2.html I will include full pics and detailed instructions if I decide that this is the best way to approach this. This is for a 78 280Z 5 speed. Any worthwhile suggestions are appreciated.
lilj
i had a very bad problem with my fusible links on my 280zx.. but thats a bit diff from yours (how im not sure.. lol). anyway, i kinda ghetto-d mine.. i bought several female 60amp fuses and then broke apart my fusable link box and took out the metal prongs, and just shoved them up into the fuses. then i took some spade connectors and 10 ga wire, and popped those in the other side. as far as figuring out what ones go where... i have the wiring diagram for it but i cant tell wtf the stuff goes. best thing i can tell you to do is take the box you have, then find a picture of the cap that goes ontop of it.. and just kinda position it so that you can figure it out. wish i could help you more but bleh.. i cant read this damn diagram =|
DaleMX
Thanks for your reply. I have figured out were it all goes and what connections to make by the wiring diagram. Boy they are hard to follow, but if you stare at it long enough you can make sense out of it all. I dont have a shop manual, but I would assume that the wiring is broken down a little better in there. Really what I'm looking for at this point is someone to say "Hey stupid, dont put it on the firewall or X will happen!" Or "What an idiot, just buy the maxifuse conversion kit from So & So company" Thanks, Dale
fl327
I just found the fuse box from the engine bay of a newer maxima or sentra and used the matching newer Maxi fuses. The maxi fuse conversion is a lot dressier and i did consider it at one point.
Mike kZ
I know these aren't maxi fuses, but they can replace your glass fuses, and upgrade to breakers. https://www.delcity.net/tstore/servlet/pagebuilder?frame=catalog_browse&parentid=167863&page=
DaleMX
Ok, I'm done. It was very easy. On a scale of 1 to 10 it was a 2. http://www.circuitflex.com/FusibleLinkPos3.jpg Dale
Synlubes
So Dale, how was the quality of the "maxi-fuse block" (part) you bought from the e-bay vender? And nice documentation by the way.
DaleMX
I bought 2 maxi's. Both had 1 allen head thread that was stripped. I had to steal one from my second one to get 1 complete one. If I had it to do over again I would have checked the action of all the hold downs before I got started and saved myself an hour of fixing.
