Guest Anonymous
I'm down to wiring on my LT1 conversion. For about 3 weeks now I have been working furiously to swap an Impala SS LT1 (YES, the 5.7L) into my 1995 240SX. Everything is ready now, and we're just running the new Painless harness. Tim240z
Are you going to edit the PCM? If so what application are you going to use? I am using TunerCat and really like it, but since I haven't used any others, I'm curious. I am also using freeScan to check and reset diagnostic codes....it's really cool and free. Sumo
Dont you have emissions testing down in Houston too similar to DFW?
Wagz
I'd love to see some pics of the coversion!
Guest zfan
Yes, Pictures of the conversion would be cool! Mike
Pop N Wood
I thought OBDII allows program updates via software? In fact, I think it is a requirement. So all 95 and newer LT1's should be reprogramable via laptop. Why are you "burning a chip" with OBDII?
Brad-ManQ45
It is my understanding that when GM wen tto the PCM that it was software programmable - not reliant on hardware anymore. OBDII may have some limitaiton built in that the first two years of the PCM did not.... How close am I on this guys?

Tim We're going to have MTI here in Houston burn us a custom chip with a modified fuel map for the car. After that, everything will be tuned with a Hypertech Power Programmer (ODB2). Emissions here are a royal pain. I'm in Harris County in Houston, and our emissions are almopst as strict as Califonia's. They even put the car on a primitive dyno to test the emissions. I will take some more pictures tonight, and see if I can upload them all tomarrow for everyone to see.
Tim240z
OK so you have a newer OBDII LT1 huh? My statement/questions are moot then Tim

I just find it easier to work with ODB2
Tim240z
I just find it easier to work with ODB2 [smile] Huh, hows that?OBDI allows full interface tuning and PCM changes from a laptop. No chip burning etc. Forgive my ignorance, but please explain. Tim

Tim There are plugs made to allow the laptop interface of ODBI setups to the ODBII connections. Yes your options on tuning are greatly limited (timing, air/fuel, transmission line pressure, sensor activation temperatures and variables) but it can still be done
