deMideon
Ready to hookup my speedometer (have an electronic!), not sure where to run the wires to, also need to know... I would assume there will be 2 wires, one side will go to the speedo, the other to +12v. Anyone know? Thanks!!
Tim240z
The T56 has two wires. The yellow wire is the 5 volt reference signal and the purple is the ground. Both go to the PCM in the OEM configuration (LT1). IIRC, I tapped into the yellow....
deMideon
Heh.. I should have mentioned... my T-56 doesn't have any of the connectors on it so I don't have any wires. Also I have a 377 sbc so no PCM either!
Tim240z
Hmmm...what speedo do you have? I am using an Autometer. I think the top pin is the reference signal. I had a problem calibrating my speedo (turns out there was a break in the wire from the T56 to the PCM. Anyways, Autometer was very helpful....try giving them a call..... deMideon
I have an autometer as well... I know which wire on the meter... that parts easy, I need to know where it goes on the T-56 and what to connect the other wire to. Like I said, I don't have a PCM. Tim240z
The pinout I referred to above WAS for the T56
deMideon
Oh!!! Sorry about that! I thought you meant on the gauge... ok... next question is which connector on the transmission is it? I am pretty sure I know which is the reverse lockout, but have no idea which of the other ones is right.
Tim240z
It's the rear most plug on the driver side. Its just below the shifter and a little forward of it.
deMideon
Cool! Thanks!!! Next hopefully someone can help me finish the hookup without the PCM!
Mike kZ
One wire from the vss goes straight to a good ground, the other goes to the gauge. http://hp.autometer.com/instructions/004489_instruction.pdf go to the OEM 2 wire sender diagram

Mike kZ
Hey Mike kz what do they mean by a solid core ignition wires? Thanks also for all this info i am going the t56 down in Aus. Solid core ignition wires are plug wires. They are usually used on race only cars, they cause radio/electrical interference.
Hailstorm
not to hijack this thread, but is there a semi-easy way to hook up a mech-speedometer to the T-56?
Bartman
not to hijack this thread, but is there a semi-easy way to hook up a mech-speedometer to the T-56?There are electronic-to-mechanical speedo adapters, but they aren't cheap.http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/t56_early_gm.html http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/techarticles/148_0305_t56_six_speed_transmission/index.html I don't have my JTR manual handy, but I believe it's discussed in their as well. Hailstorm
WOW, thanks Mike!!! that looks better than the other options I had, have you gotten a quote on that at all? it doesnt show a price really
Hailstorm
alright, I should have searched, all this info Ive been asking for was there, and I didnt find it X( anyways, there are some people saying that they wish they had just gone with the manual "make the tranny send out the cable" kit from JTR rather than the Cable-X system. Either way, they're both really expensive.
Poundz9oh9
I kept my cost down just by buying a new speedometer..
