Guest 2slo4u
Does anyone know what the temperature sensor in the fuel tank of my car is for? -compensate for fuel density to make gauge read correctly? or: -compensate for fuel density to tell computer how much fuel to deliver? I'm trying to find out for the 300zx ecu upgrade, I don't know how to put a fuel temp sensor on the fuel rail. Bernardd
Don't worry about the fuel temp sensor. It's for hot startups, coupled with the fuel pressure modulator or something like that, it's used to increase fuel pressure. Bernard
SleeperZ
I never heard of a fuel temperature sensor in the tank. The Z31 sensor is in the pressure regulator on the fuel rail. I actually threaded my custom aluminum rail for the sensor and connected it to my Z31 ECU. It made the error code go away...
Guest 2slo4u
There is a temperature sensor in the fuel tank next to the fuel level potentiometer, I just am not sure what it does. I guess after the changeover I'll try to find which wires on the ecu to connect the 300zx fuel temp sensor to and maybe put it in the fuel tank that way I won't have to do any modification to my stock fuel rail (unless the 300zx regulator will fit on my rail?) Thanks for the help, SleeperZ, still looking for the distributor shaft lower collar I lost while trying to convert my 81dist. to 83dist. months ago. 81zxturbo 95slobaruimpreza1.

It's a sensor for the fuel light on your dash.
Guest 2slo4u
Thanks for the help. I guess I'll make a custom piece to mount the 300zx fuel temp. sensor into the fuel return line so the pressure won't be critical and I won't have to worry about leaking as much. 81zxturbo -can't wait til' Sunday-ecu swap time! 95slobaru impreza- destined to stay slow

(the curve is in the FSM for the 280zx and is the same as the chts) Unless you're installing the fp control unit from a z31, you won't be needing this sensor at all. If you get a code from the ecu it doesn't matter, it won't effect the way the car runs at all. Good luck with the swap.
Guest 2slo4u
Thanks, Bernardd. I might even just clamp the sensor to the fuel filter so it can sense temp. by contact. If you think it is absolutely unecessary and won't change engine performance whatsoever, maybe I won't. What was the function of this sensor as you described above, though? Fuel pump modulator? 81zxturbo-tomorrow hybridized! 95slobaru impreza
