Guest Cronic
My friend has gotten novice body work stuffs, and we're planning on stripping and primering my car this weekend, we hope we can get it done in a full day, but who knows... My question is, is there anything I should watch out for, other then rust... How many layers of primer should I use? Im not TOO worried about the way it'll look. Im just going with a black primer because the original burnt orange has been sprayed on the car like 3 times and it's flaking off, and there's bits of rust in a bunch of places on the car. Any tips/pointers out there for the novice newb? Thanks
datsunlover
I say be prepared to put the whole weekend into it.. and then some! If there are already spots that are showing rust, there is bound to bebe some more hiding under there.. and possibly a few holes too! If you have a few ppl helping you out, it's possible I guess.. just depends how 'bad' the body is once you get all the paint off of it how long it will take to bondo it up and primer it... BTW are you planing on using spray bomb cans to primer? if so, get about 2 times what you think you'll need (trust me.. ) and try to be in a well ventilated area also (again, take my word for it.. unless you like headaches and dizyness.. ) Good luck man! EvilRufusKay
If you are gonna strip it will take more than a weekend to do it right. I have been working on mine for 4 months!! Actually probably longer...I have lost count. She is bare metal now though...every inch!!
Tim240z
Yeah...one day, or even one weekend will not cut it...even with 2 guys doing it.....Do it panel by panel and maybe 3 or 4 weekends and you will be done....
blueovalz
PRIMER!! Did someone say primer! (I love primer......well, I used to anyway). Tim's probably closer on time. I thought I'd wet sand my primered monstrosity in 2 afternoons. Yeah, right. It took 5 days.
Guest Cronic
Hurricanne scratched this weekends plans... we'll try again for next weekend. There is a bunch of small rust spots and a few holes from rust here and there. He has a sand blaster, and a gravity fed paint sprayer. Im not too sure how long it'll take, but I want to get the base coat done in a weekend, in other words, whole car stripped, bondo, primer and flat black basecoat done! Yeah one day... Hahahaha. Roostmonkey
Go light with that sandblaster or you"ll have warped panels and lots more work.
