jaime240z
What gear ratio is everyone using with their T56 trans? I plan on using a 95-97 T56 with a 350-400 hp SBC. I have an R200 now but I plan on either rebuilding or replacing it soon. What gear ratio do you guys recommend?
Owen
I'm running the R230 with a 3.54 and 17" wheels. Haven't had the car running long enough to tell you how good or bad it is tho... Owen
Mike kZ
With my Chevy rear I'm running 3:73 gears. It seems to be a perfect all around gear. Now for a r200, probably the 3:70 gears would work best.
Wagz
After reading a few different debates on this board I decided to go with a Phantom Grip prepped, 3.54 ratio with my T56. I'll be running 17" wheels as well. At this point I don't have any hard data since, the car isn't done yet. LoneInAz had some info on this. Search through the archives. There was at least one long discussion on the best ratio.
jaime240z
Thanks for the feedback, guys. I figured it might be a personal preference between the 3.54 and 3.70. I think I'll track down a 3.70 and keep it on hand in case the 3.54 decides to go.
Mudge
Alot of people like 3.90s but when on a GM car thats only available in a 12 bolt or 9". That is with a 25.7"-26.1" tire though. 3.73s are the "next best thing" usually, some like 4.10s, but it depends what your going to do with the car. If your an early Z being over a thousand pounds lighter though you can use just about anything you want
