Guest rw
i have owened my 75 280 for about a year. when i got it it the tires were in good shape .except the right rear it was worn almost smooth but even. the tail pipe was loud and leaking when i had it repaired i noticed the wheel bearings were noisy. i had the bearings replaced and got new tires. right now i have about 6k on the tires and three of them look new and the right rear is down to the wear indicators. the wear is even and the car handles very well no pull drift or any indication that the alingment may be off. at speed i can take my hands from the wheel and all it does is respond to road conditions. it is not talking to me ,but some thing is off. it is a daily driver and even with a bald tire she makes me very happy. any thoughts? i had my better half follow me and she reports it tracks true. the car is stock thanks
JMortensen
This is just a guess, but it sounds like this to me: http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=37620 I once got a "bad zero" on the alignment machine and ended up with a LOT of toe in in the back. Both tires were bald in about a week, and they wore perfectly flat. A quick check with a tape measure could verify that this is the problem. Mike C
Funny, every peg leg car I ever had possessed a bald right rear tire... Do you think this might have something to do with your driving style? That was my problem...
Guest rw
hello mike: i am a indy 500 freak but local conditions prevent me from making all left turns. my driving style, is to follow the bonnet and stay out of the ditches. i have been known to top 100 but i like to pick the time and place. Mike C
Good stuff! I guess it's not as dramatic with IRS, but solid axle cars ALWAYS wear the right rear faster than any other tire. IME, my Z's have as well, but not as dramatically as my V8 powered vehicles, but especially if I am hammering it off the line a bunch. (Which is my preferred driving style!)
