Guest iskone
I work at a place where we use chemicals every day and one of our engineers was telling me how I could make my own 120 octane fuel. The mix: 50% Iso Octane 50% Tolulene It was actually the first non leaded gas. Has anyone heard of this? Pros & Cons? Is it less than buiying race gas? JMortensen
Search online or here if the search works for "octane booster" and you'll find tons of info. I've run race gas and pump gas mixed, AV Gas and pump gas, and Tolulene and Xylene mixed with pump gas. Not sure on the Iso Octane, but Tolulene is in the gas you get at the pump already, just in very small amounts. From what I've read you can burn up to 30% Tolulene (114 octane) or Xylene (118 octane) before they start to rot your fuel lines. If you search you'll also see that most people recommend adding a little ATF and mineral spirits to your home brew to keep things clean and add a little lubrication. Octane isn't going to do you any good if you don't need it though...
Guest Magnum Rockwilder
I use Xylene or Toluene when drag racing on nitrous motors. I use 1 gallon per 2 gallons of gas (33%), plus a few ounces of ATF and a quart of mineral spirits. It works well, but it's not cheap. AV gas isn't good for cars because it has poor burn characteristics. I've never heard of ISO octane.
Guest iskone
Well I don't think I'll need 120 but I will need a slight boost, I'm guessing. Here is a link to the Z I just bought. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4509289889&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOAB:US:
Guest Magnum Rockwilder
Just retard the cam timing and ignition timing and run a MSD and it should be fine.
Bluto
What in the world is driving the distro in that car?
johnc
So, you're mixture is 50% Iso Octane and 50% Tolulene? Is there any Gasoline invloved in your mixture?
80LS1T
Like he said though, if you dont need the extra octane dont use it cause you wont make more power. Infact you wil make less. I made up some "homebrewed" high octane gas this summer to see if it made any difference. I think it was supposed to be like 106 octane or something like that. I used Xyolen(sp?), atf, and mineral spirits. My car actually got slower with it because I wasnt getting a complete burn because the octane was too high. I ran noticably faster with the 93 octane in my car. Just an FYI! Guy
Guest iskone
Well I don't plan to use the blend if I don't need it. Wich I really won't the 120 was jsut to mix with gasolene anyway. My CR isn't 17:1 I just thought I would let you guys know about it. My freind is going to bring in his blending book so that will be a fun read. Johnc, Yes. no gasolene Bluto, It has a crank trigger. It is mounted to the front of the block and the disto comes out at at about 8 o'clock whenveiwed from the front of the block. Isk
Guest kustom240
Octane booster is pretty funny. Some of my SRT-4 buddies run maybe 2 gallons per tank of tolulene, but they're running over 15lbs of boost. I'd just reccomend going to the local 76 station that carries 100 octane...
