I have done the back to original Z.

I have done the sbc powered Z.

Now I have 1970 that will be powered by a 300-325 hp (for now) 2.3 liter Turbo charged Ford 4 banger.

The 2.3T will be installed and a few bugs worked out......then when the Volvo head is ready.....will be pushing 400-425 reliable hp.

Wonderful thing about this set up is.

1st weight.......315 pounds

2nd cost............. 300-325 hp under $1k including motor and tranny.

400-425hp......add $800.00 to the cost for the Volvo head.

Going to take a look at couple 2.3 engines tomorrow......Let the fun begin :)

I will be documenting the progress with plenty of pics.........

The B234F 16 valve head was highly sought after by the Merkur crowd, and has also been used as a high flow head for other Volvo turbo conversionss. The Ford application is not a direct bolt on job, but the power gains are reportedly great. The link above shows some turbo conversions on Volvo B230 blocks .....might be an interesting conversion into a Z.

Come to think of it.... I'm driving a '90 Volvo 740GLE wagon with a B234F 16 valve head right now!

Here's one conversion:

Let us know how it goes

fyi, I was reading the 'Mustang Performance Handbook' by William Mathis (1994) who I guess is pretty famous Blue Oval builder/racer. He owns and raced a 2.3L fox-4 mustang. He mentioned a component called, Mass Air controlled EFI intake from Esslinger Engineering. He says it uses a modified Ford ECU computer and mass air meter to allow 400+ HP output from the 2.3L engine. Again I dont know anything about the 2.3L but thought you might be interested in this.
