Guest tony78_280z
In the process of braking hard I busted my (what victoria british calls a) Tension/Compression (T-C) Rod for the front right tire. It was pretty badly rusted apperantly and finaly snapped. It drove the tire forward into and bending the hell out of my fender, but I plan on gong fiberglass this spring anyhow. But I need that bar. I lost half the bar and all the rubber bushings and everything on that end. Anyone know where I can get a replacement rather cheap? I never can tell how much ZWorks in StL is gonna charge me for used parts. Sometimes it's a deal, sometimes it's not. And junk yards for parts this old is like playing roulette. Like I said I need the bar and everything that holds it to the frame. I don't think I damaged anything else. One other rod (can't find a pic of it in Vic Brit) looked a bit bent, but I think I can bend it strait again. Thanks
datsunlover
Hmm.. Personally, I'd try to find a SET off a car that are in good shape. Figure one broke already.. how soon is the other one going to let go? IMO, it's like ball joints, tie rod ends, and brakes.. If you replace one side, you might as well do both. The new parts (in my expiriance) will sometimes cause the old parts to wear/break faster as the old part is now the 'weak link'. I'm sure you can find some in good shape from cali or somewhere in the south.. I could find some up my way Im sure, but I don't know how good they'd be.. (Canada+winter= BADLY rusted Z's.. and evrything else! )
Guest tony78_280z
Well.. the other one looked O.K. I should replace it, but I'm broke right so it al depends on how much ONE is if I should buy TWO. I'll definatly add it to the list of things that can and will go wrtong

blueovalz
Well, your post got my curiousity up. I assume that you were backing up when the rod broke (being the wheel went forward into the fender)? Also, If the bushings and the rear half of the rod are gone, I wonder how it came out (the nut and the stepped rod should have kept it all together) or did it snap off at the bushings? Were the OEM bushings on the rod at the time of failure? The answer may help those reading this post later. All this scares me to a degree because after reading about all the failures from the other post, I can't help but feel concerned, being my T/C rods were extended 1.5 inches, and even had the tires rubbing on them at full lock for years (sticky tires no less), but they are still true, un-rusted, and in somewhat perfect condition. Perhaps the fact that I've never had anything other than the OEM bushings maybe?
280Zone
I've got some nice Arizona (no rust here) TC rods if you need them. I can sell them (cheap) but am always open to trades too if you have anything you might not want. Email me directly.
