turbo 400 or 700r?

Recommended Posts

I have the 700R4 in my 79 ZX and I am very happy with it. At 70 on the highway I am running just under 3000 rpm. I just can't imagine not having that overdrive. First gear in the 700R4 is a stump puller, very hard to keep the tires from spinning. If I was to do it over again, I think I would use the 200-4R. A little more docile first gear and lighter weight. A local tranny shop said they would sell me a rebuilt 200-4R set up for my specific application for $1200. I'm thinking hard about that one.

In case you want a real race car (manual)

Tremec http://www.5speedtransmissions.com/ <-- with this you can chose the gears and could have a .50 5th! That'd be a nice cruzer in 5th at 80mph.

I am going with the 200-4r I'm almost certain .67 4th the 700r4 had .70.

3-speed is fine the only problem is fining a rear end for the datsun that is lower than 3.36, something in the 2's would be necessary for the TH350/TH400 to work without screeming on the freeway.

700r4 and 2004r are ok for freeway speeds with a 3.36 rear. I'd still like to see a smaller ratio in mine, but this is a good start.
