Guest unique280
Ok Im new to Hybridz and I did do a search but came up with nothing concrete so here I go . Im planning on swapping a v-8 into my 79 280zx and am curious as to what I am going to need to do the swap. If someone can I guess make a list of what I can leave and what needs to be swapped that would be great. I see all the posts on swaps for early Z's but not much for the 79-83 generation. I know the earlier Z's are very nice but thought I would try something different. So if anyone is willing to help it would be greatly appreciated.....check out my site see what you think of my Z http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/756693
80LS1T
Do a search for these memebrs name "80LT1" "RossC" "Gremiann" "spdsk8r" "zeeboost" "dan c" these are all that I can remember right now. We have all done SBC swaps into 280ZX's. There is no magical list for what you need as far as what stays and what goes. It all depends on the drivetrain of choice. DavyZ
Nice ZX, but keep trying a search and make sure you pick out the drivetrain that suits you best. Personally I like the Chevy motors and trannies, but Ford has some great products as well. Good luck. Davy
SHO-Z
Research, research, research. Get your self a binder and start searching the web on any information you might need on the swap. Print out anything that you feel is pertinent to your swap and put it in your binder. Find out what parts and tools you are going to need and their costs. Get drawing or make your own design of all of the parts that you are planning to fabricate for the swap. Check out your local emissions requirements. Hybridz web site will get you most of the information that you need and contacts on the project. Remember it is a two way street on information and lessons learned. Mikelly
Again, I know it gets old, but refine your search... Lazyness has no rewards on this board. Also, Hop over to http://www.jagsthatrun.com and BUY THEIR manual on the Z swap...lots of the info spelled out in that book is still apllicable to this project! Good luck and welcome aboard!
