AKWIKZ
Hello all, I'm hoping someone might be able to help me here. I have an old style Nismo twin disk clutch that I am having trouble getting rebuild parts for. I'm now thinking about just getting another clutch. Does anyone out there have a high h.p. clutch they want to sell for an RB26 with RB25 tranny? Or can someone point me in the direction of a distributor that might have this? The clutch needs to be able to support 500hp at the crank. I know where to get a brand new Exedy twin disk, but they are around $2k, and I'm hoping to find something a bit more reasonable. Thanks Brian
Guest JAMIE T
I think ACT has a clutch that is probably not a twin disc. I'm getting a Exedy Twin disc clutch with my spare motor when it gets here. It says Nismo on the clutch, is that what you have now? I don't know If I can sell it yet though. Got pics of your clutch? Maybe a domestic clutch company like SPEC or Clutchnet could rebuild it for you?
cheftrd
If you have the original PN of the clutch, I'm sure I can get the parts you need.
AKWIKZ
Unfortunately I do not have any part numbers. At least none that I can find. I don't have any pics at the moment either. The clutch is at a local clutch rebuilder that has been trying to get me the parts for the last month or so. They are an Exedy dealer, but up to this point have not been able to do much. If the clutch you are getting reads "Nismo" on it, chances are it is the same as mine. Are you thinking about letting it go? Brian
Guest JAMIE T
I don't know if I can sell it. I will likely need it for a future project. When I get it, I will check with Matt on the PN's for you. Also I will post a pic when it arrives.
Zhadman
AKWIKZ, What flywheel are you using? Stock RB26?
Guest magnadyne
I guess the question is, what is "high hp"? We talking 400-500 600-800? I am thinking 500 is about the limit I would put to a single disk, and even then be a little worried about being hard on it. If you are definitely running above 500, then you need a twin disk. Bulletproofautomotive is a GREAT place for JDM parts. What they list for parts no where near all they offer. Go to their product line list. They carry ALL the big names. Exedy, Nismo, ARC, OS Giken , HKS all make strong milti disk clutches for the RB26. If you need help finding the right one, I would suggest calling them some time. they are very helpful, and can help you figure out what one is right for you. AKWIKZ
The flywheel is incorporated into the Nismo clutch I am having looked at right now. I do have a stock flywheel as well, somewhere in the shop. As for the power issue, most people I have spoken with say that even a very good single disk clutch is not going to be able to handle much more than 400-430hp for very long. My goal is to put down 500hp at the wheels. I'm pretty sure that I will need a twin disk. I have done some checking and there are a couple of places here in the U.S. that stock twin disk clutches for the Skyline. Both Blitz and HKS have nice ones along with the Exedy model we have been talking about. The best price I have found is $1500 for a new Blitz clutch. Unless someone has a good used one they are looking to sell, I'll probably go with this one. Brian
Guest magnadyne
That's cool. You would totally be safe with a twin plate. Also, 1500 is a good price for one. Good luck with your search! I'll keep my eye out for something. I love mutidisk clutches too. They are like works of art...
cheftrd
I can give you an OS twin for $1276 plus shipping or HKS GD PRO for$1294/GD MAX $1437 I prefer the HKS clutch because it uses a single hub (like OS R3C/R4C)and the replacement discs are less than half of what the OS discs cost. The HKS clutch is also much better mannered for street driving. Remember that the twin or tripple disc clutches require a different release bearing and sleeve. AKWIKZ
How much would shipping to San Diego be? Are the parts still available to rebuild the ones you mentioned? Do either of these include the proper throw out bearing or collar? Thanks Brian
cheftrd
The throw out bearing and collar are only around $30. Shipping to SD would be between $50-70. Both of these clutches are state-of-the-art, brand new; parts will be available for many years to come. AKWIKZ
I will probably take you up on this. I'm hoping to hear a final word on my clutch this weekend. If it is bad news, I guess I know my next move. I'll have to wait a little as I only set aside $700 or so to rebuild this one. I'll have to scratch up the rest. I'll get back to you as soon as I have some real facts. Thanks Brian
Guest JAMIE T
While on the subject of clutches... The one I got from Stony appears to be a triple disc OS Giken. It has three friction discs and three metal discs. The pressure plate isn't billet like the sample Magnadyne posted. It looks like a regular pressure plate from the outside but is stamped "OS". The friction discs look like they are getting thin, but I have nothing to compare them to. All I've ever used were basic clutches. the last one being a SPEC Stage 3 in my Z28. I took some pics the other day, but not af it apart. I'll post those, then pics of it taken apart when I take them.
ZXRockie
:| What about for daily driving?
Guest JAMIE T
Sure, I have calves like Lance Armstrong. I like my clutches, ON or OFF. Like a switch. The cops don't care much for it though.
