big-phil
How much REAL improvment will a 60mm tb make on my 78 280z? Will I REALLY feal any difference? And when you put the 60mm on, is any other mod necessary, or is it kind of a bolt on and go. I've searched and read alot of threads on this forum but can't find my answer. So now I ask you. I know about the minnor fab work with putting it on. I'm thinking of the 60mm tb and cold air intake, just for a little boost.
2126
big-phil, I'm no expert on EFI systems but there are some basic rules that apply to all internal combustion engines. Regarding your question...fuel/air ratios and the amount of it being sucked into the engine. A stock system is designed to operate well in many conditions and meet emission standards and it's controlled by a limited computer. Also, I don't know what size TB your stock unit is but I don't think its anywhere near 60mm. But by simply adding on a large TB, with out addressing anything else, your asking for ill performance. If you intend to inlarge the intake side of the engine, you should likewise inlarge the exhaust side as well. There's more to it than that, but that's the basic idea. Sounds like some reading about overall engine design, operation, and modification are needed. Acquiring this knowledge now will save you $$$ later and you will be able to deside what you want and need to do. Hope this help you some? big-phil
My stock tb is 50mm (or so thats what I've read here) and I see alot of people state in their upgrades that they have added a 60mm tb, some seem to have said thats all they have done. So, I'm just wondering if thats an upgrade that can be done by it self?
Len
For me I installed the 60mm 240sx tb along with cold air intake larger injectors and I/C, larger exaust.... I can't tell you if it made a difference by itself...I do know it made a hell of a difference all together. For you I would think to round out what you have if its a 280z N/A. Is to go with the cold air intake as you mentioned then install your 280z electronics from your AFM body into a 81/83 280 zx turbo AFM (there are good sites that show step by step ways of doing it). The 60mm. tb. Then possibly headers and buying a set of turbo injectors....you will see a marked improvement and if you shop around won't break the bank. Oh yea I think you could get hurt riding around on your bike like that! I guess saves mileage on the rear tire...
