This would have to be my first post  well I will post pics of what happened when i get home but here is what happened...

Going to school this morning....had my music up to help wake my sleepy head self up...i notice a peculiar drone...turn music down, press the gas, and damn muffler was off somehow...i get to school and i look and the muffler was broken just after the mount on the front...only thing holding it was the rear bracket with the one bolt...now i didnt have much time because i was running late, but i shook it to see if it would be stable enough to drive it back home...BIG MISTAKE!!!!! I knew i should have atleat took my shoe lace off and tried to tie it up but i didnt have time and besides i shook it and it was only moving side to side not up and down.

So im off headed home takin it slow...ok maybe not so slow, but you have to admire my honesty...well there is an intersection here in my lovely city of Greensboro,NC that it's like crossing a ditch!!!

I hit this EFFING ditch...here comes MURPHY...muffler catches the asphalt...BAMMM BOOMMMM

I was only going about 25 to 30 when i hit that thing and it jacked my car up with the awfullest sound and i look in my review and watch as my muffler tumbles to a hault...I immediately knew there was damage, but DAMN i didnt think it was this bad... :-( I will post pics tonight.

i know I'm not the first and surely will not be the last person this happens too, but i hope whoever reads this has learned a lesson...MURPHY IS A BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a way to start out on a forum :-|

Welcome to the board man, and ouch.. that hurts.. I had a similar incident once.. don't feel too bad about it. At least you're here, and will now gather knowlege and desire to do crazy modifications to evry piece/part of your Z. So don't wory about that little sheet metal problem.. and the cracked light? Bah.. build a custom rear panel with round lights.. ect ect. You'll understand soon... :)

Is that first pic of the 1/4 panel dammaged cus of the bumper too?

My whole exhaust system fell off on my b-day last year. well, from the head pipe back. I was lazy and just stuck it in the trunk and drove home without a muffler. Luckily there was no body dammage...

like datsunlover said, just fab up some kind of roll pan. There are too many dents in the 280z rear panel anyways!

Back when I was dating my wife I had a 1979 280ZX. One night coming home from her parents house and running about 60mph, I ran over a dead Sheep Dog that was laying in my lane of traffic.

The truck in front of me swerved at the last second to avoid hitting the thing leaving me with little time to react. I couldn't swerve left because I would have hit someone head on and I couldn't swerve right because I would have hit a guard rail. So I decided to straddle the dog.

It was like everything was in slow motion once the dog disappeared underneath my ZX. The front of the car cleared the beast, engine, transmission, rear end and then BAM! The dog hit something at the rear of the car and jacked both my rear wheels off the ground! When I finally regained control I realized that my ZX now sounded like a diesel truck it was sooo loud. The dog had knocked/broken my muffler off along with any pipes that were connected to it.

My wife was following behind me in her old 240SX and she told me that she did not know what had happened. She saw the rear of my Z lift off the ground and then saw this big carcuss spinning past her driver's side.

I took the car to the local muffler shop the next day and the mechanic called me in to look at the damage. He pointed to the undercarrige and showed me that there were chunks of dog meat still on my suspension and underbody. I know that's gross but it is a true story.

I will never forget how it felt to drive my car on only its front two wheels. Next time I think I will take my chances with the guard rail.
