Floor pans glued in!?!?!? What do I do now?

Yep that's right. I was working the tar stuff off and fouond a big problem. It looks like my whole floor was replaced in one big peice from another Z. I have one big seem of some type of liquid nails that looks kinda like bondo going all the way around the peremiter of the floor pan. I'll take some pictures tonight to show you what I mean.

My question is should I just replace the whole floor or should I cut out all the glued together sections and weld in patches?

I'm not a body guru but I would think a whole new floor would be the strongest since there would be half as many welds. Either way I think I'll put in some rectangluar tubing and connect the front with the rear.

BTW, This Sucks!!!!!! :x

yuck... I feel your pain man.. I'll bet the floor pans have been spot welded in at least a few places, but you may not be able to see them due to the 'goo' on them. I found lots of similar crap when I was fixing my Z. It's most likely a type os seam sealer/caulking that has been used to seal up the cracks left behind after a bad/rushed welding job. If it's all still metal, I'd try scraping out as much as possible, and welding it up as it is.. even puting thin strips (2" or so wide) over it and welding.. a lot of work yes, but replacing the whole floor sections is going to be more work IMO..

Not to insult you, but are you sure that the floor was replaced? The stock floor pans also had this liquid nails looking stuff on all of the seams (seam sealer). It seems odd, although I know weirder things have happened, that someone would have used something like that to replace the whole floor. If they were going to that much trouble, why would they have only glued it in?

Again, I am not trying to doubt you, just curious really.

I'd confirm it is an overlap of a floor skin, and then try to heat the glue and pull it up... Clean ALL the edges off the panel, and the surrounding edges of the HOLE, and then get a welder and tack it back in place... After removing any residual rust of course... It only sucks as much as you make it... be glad you didn't find it in a more integral part AFTER a crash...

Glass half full man! Chin UP!

Jolane: I tought the same thing but it's nothing like that in my 280.

I looked for any welds at all and couldn't find them, but I did only look in a one foot area. I'm going to look at it closer when I get home tonight. I may just try to clean up any rust I can then weld over it and POR-15 it. But I got to say I don't like that idea much it bugs me to think my car would have some jury rigged repairs. I'll try to heat it up *** well. There were some aeras where I removed the "glue" and it revealed rust all the way trough, about the size of a nickel in 2 spots.

I'm looking on the bright side kind of, I did say I might stiffen the car up with some subframe conectors.
