tfreer85
Okay, i'm looking into doing a 76 EFI L28 to a triple carb setup. I'll be running this in a 240Z intsead. Okay, I have couple of questions however, if i do the conversion, I don't need to keep the ECU, Wiring harness or anything related to the fuel injection right? The main reason that i want to convert is because I don't like over electrical engines because i don't know how to work on them. Also, is the stock '76 head the N42 head or is it something different? And will it bolt up to a triple carb setup? All of the L-6's engines and trannies are interchangable between 70-79 right? Thanks Tyson
2126
Feeling lucky today.....? Yes you can install triple carbs on the N42 head without an issues, as long as you have the correct manifold for the triples. You will no longer need an ECU with the triples. And yes, the engine and transmissions will interchange. Be aware, depending on which year transmission you swap, the clutch fork assembly will require changing to a later version. Spend some time and search the archives for more detailed discussions on your questions.
Mike C
Depends on what year ignition you use on the electronics you need for that. Triples don't work well with vacuum advance since any one runner doesn't pull sufficiently to get full advance. My solution is a Mallory dual point w/o vacuum advance. They also make a Unilite. You can mod the Nissan distributor, too and get rid of the vac advance. But you have to modify the centrifugal advance to get more travel in order to not have to run 20+ degrees initial advance. All of this for max performance. The previous owner of my triples ran stock Nissan electronic ignition from a 78 280Z in his 240.
