HarrisonTX
I had the idea, or maybe i saw it somewhere, i forget, for wink bumpers. like they had on '70 1/2 camaro's. Where its just 2 little short bumpers, so the grill is 100% exposed. Does anyone have any pics with a wink bumpers on a z? Anyone know how much re chroming costs? Jolane
I just saw a picture the other day of a Z with wink bumpers. It was someone on this site, but I can't remember who. As for rechroming, I just called last week and local place here wants $160 each. They will do any straightening that needs to be done also. HarrisonTX
wait, $160 each, like each little piece? i have no idea about chromin, but that sounds way expensive. I could powder coat them black for less than that. but, then again, i'd have to blacken the rear one too, which would be about as expensive as the chroming, damn hot roddin. datsunlover
I was considering making my own.. My 240 bumber (on my 280) was pretty bent and is showing er.. age. I beat it back into shape and cleaned it up ok, but had a thought about just choping the center section out (it's the worst damaged part anyway) and then welding up the insides.. probly sand blast and paint flat black.. I don't have a rear bumper to worry about either.
Jolane
Sorry, No the $160 was a complete bumper without the overriders. Joshua
BrandonsZ
Make sure they acid etch or electropolish, and copper strike before chrome plating steel. Otherwise you'll get pealin' chrome in about 3 years. (disclaimer I know nothing, this info is anecdotal)
240Z2NV
I saw one of these configurations at the MSA West Coast Nationals last year. Sorry, didn't take any pics. Your radiator/engine sure will be vulnerable though. True the OE bumpers offer next to nothing; but, trucker retreads come flyin' off, and it's all over. I had one hit me in the face while riding a motorcycle, I got pretty 'jacked up'.
