Zhadman
Are there any places online where I could order used software? I'd like to get a copy of 3D Studio Max (6 or 7), but I don't want to pay $2800 for it new (not yet atleast... maybe after the Z is done). Guest Battle Pope
any particular reason why 3DS Max? Are you just gonna be modeling? I prefer Rhino 3D for modeling myself. Much more intuitive interface, and much cheaper.
Zhadman
Well... I'm already a bit familiar with 3DS Max and I have a few of the tutorial books that were passed on to me.
Guest Battle Pope
Ah. Well, I have a :ahem: copy of rhino... I know it's only like 400 or so new. I don't know where on earth you might go to buy a used copy of 3ds max.
Zhadman
Probably nowhere. Rhino is pretty good? I haven't seen to many pictures of anything done in it.
Guest Battle Pope
I'd have to install it and render some of my old models up, but I made some killer stuff in it like 4 yrs ago. Lemme whip it up and see if I can find some images.

80LS1T
If you go to www.bearshare.com and download their software for "filesharing" you can find a copy of it on their filesharing network. I searched for "3D Studio Max" and I came up with 2 big zip files for both 6 and 7 versions. I didnt download them though to see what they are. The site is free too! Zhadman
80LT1, I'll check that out tonight and give it a try. I looked on Shareaza, but could never get a connection going. Hat1324, My wife is going to college, but she is taking a sememster off and I'll have to wait 4-5 months before I can look into an educational version. You have to watch the student versions, though. Many times you're paying for a 1 year licence. Full version, full license (IIRC) goes for ~$600 - $700. Not bad... but I've heard rumors that the educational version does not have all the features unlocked.
Rival5
Just remember when downloading from any P2P program do a virus check. You should be able to find it on Bearshare. I'd also look at some Bittorrent sites. http://torrentspy.com/default.asp http://thepiratebay.org/ http://www.mininova.org/ I saw 3d studio on all three. I just downloaded autocad 2006 last month to play with. Just to make sure you and others know it is piracy and illegal. If you have any questions or comments just ask. Zhadman
Just to make sure you and others know it is piracy and illegal. This is true. I am going to buy the full version next year... but I want to make sure it's the program I really want to use first. I realize this is a gray (or even black) area for some... but I can't afford to waste nearly $3000.
Owen
If Bearshare don't work, try Limewire. There's always the newsgroups, alt.binaries.utilities or something like that. Owen
Zhadman
Wow... I really appreciate all the help and suggestions. I have heard (from a guy in my IT dept.) that Bearshare is virus laden. I imagine that quite a few of the P2P networks have this problem. That's where Rival5's advice comes into play.
Rival5
Zhadman i can understand wanting to try it first before buying. Thats one of the reasons I downloaded autocad. Its not easy to shell out three grand for a pretty box, some papers and a couple CD's. Good luck. Mike
Tim240z
Guys....be careful about what you talk about (illegal copyright infringements etc) Remember that, although this seems like our little neck of the woods, this is an electronic billboard..... hat1324
werd on ^^^ thats why i mentioned the LEGAL copys.. bearshare and limewire will have it, just not legaly.. and the only difference I noticed in MAX was that it sayed educational version in the splash screen, and in the info.. my "other" copy didnt.. same features and same stuff. only difference is that the educational versions are usally just a CD and install instructions, thinking you will be using a instructor and a textbook for the leasons. my free maya copy does take things out of the whole version, mainly the furr feature witch is one of the coolest IMO. but a serial code later and it workes... Yes it is, so is Kazaa, Limewire, Morpheus etc. The best place IMO is a RESPECTABLE (read: registration required) Torrent website.
