280Zone
There are at least two of us here in AZ that are planning on runnig A/C. DMSV8 is well on his way with all of the components installed. Also check out the VintageAir units.

fastzcars
I have A Vintage Air Gen2 compact unit. It cools great. Actually I have to set the temp level at 2/3 max, because at max setting it's too cold.

awd92gsx
Why can't you just run the normal Chevy A/C bracket and compressor and hook it up to the datsun evaporator with custom hoses?
fastzcars
That's true awd92. But what do you do if you didn't have a/c to begin with? Tha Gen2 cost about 1200. I called VA and they pieced together a system for me. Mind you I had to fabricate the mounting brackets and the dash had to come out to do this. This was NOT a bolt in setup. HICKL
Why can't you just run the normal Chevy A/C bracket and compressor and hook it up to the datsun evaporator with custom hoses? You can, I did. Am not totally pleased with the output but I kinda half a$$ed it also. My cooling system is not pulling enough air thru the rad so I wasn't getting the max potential but it does work and I expect with some greater knowledge than mine, could be made to work just fine. It's hot in Houston also. Jeff
hanomon
I've the got stock 280 AC with (GM) compressor. Mounted on the upper drivers side with a custom bracket, alt is on pass side, two idlers from a Mitsubishi Eclipse, no PS and it uses the stock GM LT-1 drive belt. Phantom
I have AC in my 280Z with the LS1. I am running the stock 280 components except for a special high efficiency Japanese Compressor. The original system is good to about 90°F and then it starts losing ground against the heat - UNLESS - you go through and thoroughly insulate the car. I just did that and now it holds to about 100°F - even if the car is thoroughly 'sun-soaked' from sitting out all afternoon under the Texas sun. Amazing what a little insulation can do.
