JaysZ
since dual point distributors are fully mechanical, would this qualify as a mechanical advance dizzy or is it something totally different? i'm having trouble finding a good used ZX dizzy and came upon a mallory dual point unit for a good price, could i use it or just keep looking for a ZX unit? JMortensen
I wouldn't go back to points for anything. Theoretically that is a better setup than the stock points distributor. I wouldn't buy it though. You know you can also modify what you have. You can put a Pertronix EI unit in a 240 distributor, then if you want to recurve it you can braze up the advance slots to limit the total advance. It's not that hard to do

JMortensen
The 240 and 280 are not the same. The 280 is EI, and uses a trigger wheel and a magnetic sensor. The 240 uses points. The ZX is also completely different. You have a 280Z? I didn't realize that before. Pull the cap and look and see if it has points. If it doesn't, then just disconnect the vacuum to it and run it as is. Or, if you want to recurve it you can pull it all apart and do that. datsunlover
If you have/get a ZX dizzy (black module on the side) you can hook the MSD up directly to it and it works great. I hooked mine up yesterday and have noticed quite an improvment over the stock zx dizzy. (I ran the stock zx dizzy in my 75 280z last year, right up until yesterday.. it works well, just not a very powerfull spark and seamed to have trouble 'keeping up after' 5000 RPM) I have the wiring instructions somewhere if you need them.. JaysZ
yup, i have a 280z its currently at the shop so i'll have to swing by when i get a chance (maybe snap some pics) to see exactly what type of ignition system its running. i really dont know too much about all this so i really appreciate your input.
