John Scott
Local news paper this a.m. stated tickets are way up for noisy vehicles. Mine is really loud, so only a matter of time. Has anyone used the Dynatech Vortex insert cones? If so did they cut the volume appreciably? I can't spend $$ on a new muffler, so this might be a quick fix. Guest 350zgto
I welded one of these in my 3" tailpipe last weekend. I could not find any specifics on "how much noise does it cut" anywhere. On the box, it states 2 decible noise reduction.....OK... It did make the car quieter, I can tell the difference. I have a single 3" pipe from a Flowmaster Y-pipe from dual 2.5" with 2 shorty glasspacks from a 427 horse 355 Chevy to a single 3" Flowmaster Delta 40. Rather than pay the ridiculous price of this item, just get some steel mesh and form it into a cone. That's all this is. That was my plan but I was in a hurry. John Scott
Thanks for the reply. Yeah, $70 or so is alot for a few decibel reduction... But if it would keep me from getting pulled over.I looked into some perforated sheet metal suppliers, but was boggled by the assortment and didn't know the ideal open hole to surface area. I guess I could stuff a big spud or maybe my wifes panty hose in there
mc
i used one on my RMT set up because there is no room for a muffler anymore....it did make it alittle less noisey....way overpriced though.
SHO-Z
I just bought a supertrapp last month off of ebay. Have not installed it but it also has the plate design so you can adjust the sound level. These are used on some of the race tracks for sound control. Guest tony78_280z
Car Chemistry Header Inserts: From their webpage... CC InsertsT provide a deep crisp note to any exhaust system. Developed to quiet racing exhaust systems, the Inserts provide a very light, efficient alternative to bulky mufflers. Testing has demonstrated that CC InsertsT can improve low AND mid range power, even when compared to open headers. When used in street applications you gain all of the benefits of the race units with an aggressive exhaust note that hints of a full race system. Also Advertised: improved scavenging and less backpressure. They claim it is as good or better than strait headers. One thing not mentioned in the product description is that the inserts quite down the closer to proper A/F ratio, and proper timing. Basicaly, the better tuned the motor, the more quiet and better it sounds. They weigh 7 pounds each, and take up no more room than the pipes themselves. One can even stack multiple inserts in the pipes to further quite the noise. Check out their webpage. I'm happy with them.
