Steel Wheels Vs Aluminum

I was wondering what you guys feel about steel wheels weight wise against aluminum wheels (both being aftermarket). I know That aluminum is "lighter" but with some math I found that Chromoly has a better strength/weight and stiffness/weight ratio than I believe T6 aluminum. How heavy do you estimate some 15"X8" steel wheels would weigh? Also I know this is off the topic of my thread, but I didnt wanna polute the engine forum with a small thread, so I was wondering if a P90A head would fit on a L24, I am not concerned with the compression, simply wondering if a P90A would fit properly and all the water and oil jackets would line up properly. Thanks so much!

Looks like about 16 lbs. "Stock car" wheels are much heavier, I have a set that I ordered before I knew any better and they're about 24 lbs. I didn't search or anything, you might find another supplier that makes a lighter steel wheel, but I know Diamond Racing's URL so I just went straight there.

I believe the P90 would bolt to an L24, heck I have an E31 on an F54 block, but when the valves opened they wouldn't clear the block due to the smaller bore. You'd have to notch the block quite a bit.

On my race car I use the lightweight diamonds. Fronts are 13x10 and rears are 13x12. The fronts are around ten pounds and the rears around 15. You wouldn't want to run these on the street as potholes would probably bend them. They are designed to fold up easily to help from bending other bits. I think these are referred to as their mini stock wheels.

That said a good quality aluminum wheel will probably be stiffer for the same or less weight. Whether or not you can tell any difference will depend a lot on what your car is and how you use it.

anyone tried the cragar wheels? The ones that look like torque thrusts (most of them are 5 lug). American racing is probably worth the price though, because they are 1 piece. The cragars and american racing are probably dead heavy. Am I correct?
