Georgia Flash
This may be a dumb question but I was wondering which transmission fluid to use in my 700R4. Do I need Dextron II or Dextron III? The transmission is from a 1987 full size Chevy van if this helps any. Thanks. By the way if everything goes well in the morning I will try to fire up my V-8 Z for the first time. dr_hunt
Dex 2 If you ever rebuild a trans, you'll note that the kit says to use Type F. I use Type F in my powerglide and TH400.

Zfreak
Thanks, I will go Dex II tomorrow. Don't take my word for it, but I run a 700R4 and I use Dex III. The guys at Bowtie Overdrives recommend Dex III. As far as brand, they say buy it on sales and change it offten.
Georgia Flash
I will try and double check with the parts store, I am heading that way now. Thanks for the input.
80LS1T
You can use DEX 3 or DEX 2 in your tranny. DEX 3 is ok to use in anything that originally came with DEX 1 or 2. It is a superseeded(sp?) fluid. Its not like brake fluid where you dont want use like DOT 5 in a DOT 3 system. I would use DEX 3 Guy
desert dog
Dex III all the way... Type F has lesser lubricating properties.
Guest Z-GEEK
I was going to break my tranny in from Bowtie with the Dex3 and than go to a synthetic, such as redline. With the heat that a 700R4 generates it seems the way to go.Is this a no,no or a personal choice? Looks good Georgia Dog!
