  1. From what I understand, the Z31 turbo 5-lug front hubs are compatible with the S30 front spindles. I have a 5 lug front hub from an '87 Z31T in the garage right now that I will be checking this out to make sure it is true.
  2. They have them both listed here: car-part.com Sorry man, I thought I could help... I will keep my eyes open for ya.
  3. This place has both sides... Z31 shafts in Texas
  4. They are available here at NAPA, Auto Zone and O'Reilly's...
  5. I have a high compression E31 head on my old L24 if you want it cheap...
  6. Seafoam cleans the combustion chambers really well. Most times deposits in the chambers makes the engine run rougher due to variation in combustion chamber size because of the deposits. Removing the deposits, which Seafoam does very well, makes the engine run smoother. If you have a lot of deposits though, you can go through a couple of sets of spark plugs before it all clears out... I use the stuff religiously in my 440 Power Wagon... Mike
  7. Of the ones I have seen, they suck regarding injector to injector uniformity of flow. I have seen 10% deltas. Some of the guys at 300ZXclub have seen them fail early as well...
  8. Thicker radiator allows more water to flow through and be cooled. However, cooling efficiency drops a little, but not significantly. 3" is about the limit in thickness where you really don't lose much efficiency. The increase in cooling capacity more than makes up for it though.
  9. The VG30DE is a very wide motor. The heads on it are huge to accomodate the 4 camshafts. It is wider than the distance between the strut towers in the engine compartment. You will have to do some modifications to the lower strut area just so the motor will slip into place with minimal drama... It is also a heavy motor, outweighing the original L6 by about 100 lbs... One other thing about the VG30DE. You must change the timing belt every 60000 miles. If you don't and it breaks, you will have one very expensive boat anchor... Good luck on whatever you pick... Mike
  10. OK, my two cents... I apologize for the earlier rant, but discospud is a ricer term in my book. Honda drivers use it all the time... GT28's are an upgrade from the modded T22's that are used in '90 to '96 Z32TT's. A lot of them have been installed on these cars. The GT28 is a very nice size turbo for 1.5 liters displacement. They should easily boost to 20-22 PSI. Just make sure you have big intercooler capacity. The other turbo that should work nicely is the PE1420 (Power Enterprises). A friend of mine has a shop in Jersey that can get you good prices on turbos of this size. His website: http://www.amzperformance.com
  11. FYI, Carbed turbo motors are some of the most tempermental engines known to man. You think you have the metering down on the carb, and a warm or cool day makes the engine run like crap. I cussed a turbocharged Camaro one time for a week trying to get it to not run lean in midrange. FI makes turbo motors easy and basically troublefree, and run at or near stoich at cruise. A carbureted turbo motor typcally runs rich at part throttle... Good luck, Mike
  12. You want the L79 327 from the Nova (375 HP)... The Muncie M22 rockcrusher 4-speed is near bulletproof behind a SBC... Just add an OD unit...
  13. The LS2 utilizes LS6 heads and the CR is 10.7 to 1. And I won't say a thing about FI owning carbureted installs...
  14. If the engine is designed correctly or sufficiently, the side loads and friction related load are fractional compared to the force of the controlled explosion on the other side of the piston. This is why rod length and piston skirt length dimensioning vs. deck height is critical for a free-revving engine. And regarding mechanical interference (dropped valve, piston fragment) the first offset impact usually bends the rod.
  15. That looks like a whole lot of work to get the GM IRS under there... Considerably more than an R230/Q45 shaft install. Is the suspension on the rear of the S30 that bad, or is the transverse leaf dana 36 just that good? I want to understand why you would do all this work.
  16. Wow Jon you are a busy man. Those are some seriously robust brackets. How much lower is the car going to be than stock?
  17. Nah, they are too busy ragging other people's ideas to post in the correct forum...
  18. Well, let's see it... It is easy to brag on the 'net. Talk is way cheap. It is also easy to tear down someone's idea and still be clueless. Did you know your key is getting stuck? qwik240z, If I didn't already have an idea for a front mount for my R230, I would definitely be sending a PM.
  19. It is definitely a bonus to have friends who have expertise different than your own. Among all my gearhead buddies at work, we could build any car, any make and make it any color with any engine...
  20. Awesome builds Grumpy, but where are the LSx buildups? GM High-Tech Performance is my car magazine of choice lately...
  21. Yep, it is amazing what folks think a machinist's time is worth. This one guy wanted me to make a billet alternator case for him, vents and all. He didn't want to spend more than $150...
