Guest PsychoZ
I have an '80 and an '82 zx and am wanting to get the '80 running before I disassemble my daily driving '82. I was thinking of putting in a Ford 300 (4.9L) inline six in my '80 and fixing it up completely. Has anyone ever heard/thought of this? My main curious point is that I am not certain about the vertical height of the 300 fitting in the engine compartment. Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks,
alternativez2003
sounds interesting; definitely do the measurements, oil pan clearance, trans, etc. I'm doing the 3.5 BMW into 70 Z swap, and it's going well, but I've had to work to get the right positions, gaining fractions of inches and angles to get it in. Everything is a swap is a set of compromises. I have finally gotten it where I want it; the hood closes; and I have plenty of room in front, but I've had to cut into the firewall and tunnel, so I have that to rebuild. I wouldn't suggest any swap to the faint of heart, but if we want it badly enough, we will do it anyway. That 300 is a large six. Do you have it, trans and all? Garrett76Zt
I know its a truck motor and all but the 4.0 liter HO motor out of a Jeep could be a cool swap. Also they have stroker kits to go up to 4.7 liters! Slap a turbo and woohoo. Maybe regrind the cam to get a little more topend power. Guest traub83
arnt those ford inline 6's really really torqey!! I used to have a old ford with one and a 3 on the tree and it was slow as dog, reved to like 4500, but man could it pull... Could be an interesting swap!! and if i remember right they use the same trannys as the sb fords also so a c4 would bolt on but please dont quote me on it! TomsCoupe
Yeah, these engiens have gobs of torque. My uncle has one in his f150 and he has had NO engine problems since new,and its a 92. They can be a bit loud though, and are pretty tall. He even ran it to the point of the oil light coming on and it still runs like a champ.
