Hi, i'm a newbie to this forum, this might be a stupid post, but I really would like to have full information on a engine swap for 280z, what do I need to have and what do I need to change, will everything fits in including A/C and intercoolers? Please give me a hand on it. Thank you

I thought I saw a post about this before. Did you try using the search?

Anyways, I believe the engine bay is too small for the VG30DETT. Theres really not that much room in there, I would stick to a V8 conversion or just the stock turbo engine. The small block v8's fit very nicely in there, leaving alot more room than the stock engine. Refer to the V8 section of this forum.

It has been done already, there is extremely little info about the details of the swap.

It is costly, requires lots of modifications to get it in there and its a tight fit.

But mostly requires lots of time and talent to get it in and working right. If its not installed correctly, you will mess with the handling, balance, braking ability, or be just downright dangerous if short cuts are taken, poor materials or poor design of hand fabricated parts. I say the dangerous parts because I doubt you are going to use this car as a grocery getter, and an engine ripping itself off its mounts at speed can be a lethal problem.

Thanks for the reply from you guys, but the engine i want is a twin turbo engine? Is Rb26dett my only choice?? Is it hard to find parts for RB26??? I have so many questions...can anyone give me a hand on this project?? Because its better to do more research before i start my project....Thanks guys..

Not sure why you must have a twin turbo, not a good option, but anyway.

Have you looked at Toyota straight sixes? I don't know a lot about them but they have a twin turbo (Supra?) I think, very strong engine and the exhaust is on the right side of the engine which should be good for you left hand drivers.

The Toyota six swap has been done, give the search here and google elsewhere a workout.

yea, 260DET is right. if you're determined to go w/ a twin turbo swap, then the 1JZ is probably the motor of your choice. you can get an engine for $1500 for a complete motor set. (less than $2k for a front clip.) Compared to the $3k+ for the rb26, it seems like a great deal to me.

As for the VG30DETT, I think that it's waaay too much work involved trying to get it to fit. not only that, but you also have to think about servicing the car after you're done w/ the car. (not something I enjoy even in the Z32. . . I couldn't even imagine it in the narrow compartment of the older Z)

the VG30ET would be much more feasible due to the head design, but again, it's a V shaped turbo motor and the same logic applies as above.
