Car Mag Shootouts!

Did you see the Motortrend or C and D, they had a big shoot out. The cars typically cost $55000 ish total with all mods and delivered lame performance. The cars never seem to deliver. There was a 396 HP civic SI turbo (2525 lbs)that ran 13.5@106 and a 452HP Neon SRT that ran 13.4@112mph. That got me to thinking I must be putting doen around 750 HP with this new math...

Front tire fryers. Makes for great traction. Shouldn't those trap speeds be a bit higher for the claimed output? 400HP and 106MPH. Something is not adding up. I mean, a 370RWHP Cobra will trap above 110 easy. Don't the C5 Z06's trap around 115? Maybe its driving style or extremely small powerband. Who knows?

I didn't understand the results either :(

Only the Evo's and Elises seemed to run what they should have been.

Was nice to see the SRT stomp all over the Honda's though :D Having just bought an SRT, I'm going to have to hold onto that mag for whenever honda kids want to tell me how much my car sucks :P

I am left wondering how that SRT ran such crappy times though... the owner of that car is a frequent poster over at SRTforums.com, he's got a very extensive list of mods.

I can tell you this, there are guys over there with much shorter lists (typically an upgraded/adjustable wastegate actuator, upgraded exhaust... and uh... maybe better tires) that can run mid-low 13's all day long at like 104-108mph, and have posted the timeslips to prove it. Those guys typically put down like 250-270hp to the wheels.

So SOMETHING was going on there.....
