savageskaterkid
I was wondering around sum abondoned property, and about halfway through the property i found an old chevy truck. I looked at pictures online and its around a 1955-1960 pickup, it doesn't have the original bed, and the windshield is shot out and i didn't really pay much attention to the other windows. Its got a flatbed on it. Can anybody give me a site or information that pertains to this truck model. And a site where i can buy replacement pieces, i checked a few out, but none had a bed, or any bed parts. How replacable are the windshields-its got 2 windshields. And what are sum common problem areas when it comes to rust and such. I believe that i can pick it up fairly cheap, it is not in great condition, but its not a complete bucket either. Its on property that was siezed by the gov't i believe, so i called the place thats selling it, and left a message about the vehicle, i highly doubt there gonna wanna keep an old junker truck on the property if there gonna sell it. Edit: I didn't really pay close attention to the truck at all, becuz i wasn't sure if i was even allowed on the property becuz it has posted signs everywhere, but its an abandoned property now, so i dont think the signs mean anything- i may drive back there one of these days and get a closer look, so sum1 give me some info on what to look for and when to say NO. and i dont know if its a v8 or an I6
tfreer85
http://www.carsinc.com/chevy/1955_1987_pickup http://www.lmctruck.com/features/CA/CAYearsCovered.htm Hopefully those can help you out a little, I think the grills are complaints for rust and in the inside of those large fenders. Don't know for sure though. Should be a cool Truck. Tyson

Guest 73TPIZ
This style is from '48 to 53 and has the double windshield. This may be the style you saw. Some eliminate the trim between the two halves and just butt them together and seal the joint. This is a '54 or a '55 first series. (changed styles in middle of '55) These have a single windshield although nearly flat. And this is a '55(second series) to '57 style. Notice the heavily curved windshield. I owned a '52 for a little while but realized i didn't have time to restore it, so i sold it to a buddy of mine. Good luck if you get any of these. Cool trucks. BTW '48-~'50 had the gas tank under the bed. Then in ~'51 changed to putting it behind the driver seat till ~'72 before they had the sense to change it back. Funny how they had it right to start with.
JMortensen
My wife's first car was a '53 with the wraparound corner windows, the original flathead straight 6 and a 3 speed. It had no power brakes, no seatbelts, and a broken leaf spring. My wife (girlfriend at the time) was 16 years old and she would stand on the brake pedal literally butt off the seat to get it to stop. It was a GREAT project, for someone else. They are great trucks to update. 350/350, ps, pb, front disk and some new suspension and you have a very stylish truck to drive around. In original condition they are pretty crappy to drive. Some other member of the family got it and she wound up with a '74 Gran Torino instead, but that is a whole other story. savageskaterkid
73TPIZ-The one i saw looks most like the third picture, but it had a split window-did these models come like that at all, or was that an aftermarket type thing, because all of the ones i see online have a one piece windshield. savageskaterkid
sumbody told me tday that they saw the same truck, but they said it was a dualie, wich i never really stopped to pay close attention to the wheels, so i didn't notice it-did they even make a dualie in that model, or is the kid possibly mistaken, he also said that it was an early 50's model too.
