v80z
Terry and others I have the front maxima rotors on the rear. Had to grind the corners off around the wheel studs like you said. I bought the maxima caliper brakets and the are on. I traded for some rear maxima calipers but they dont work. I will use them for cores. I bought the 81 toyota cressida front calipers and brought them home today. Here are some pictures On the new calipers the piece that actually bolts to the caliper bracket seems to be missing. blueovalz
I'll take a look at mine tonight (I'm so pathetic) and see what I can tell about what you're missing (if anything?)
v80z
Think I got it figured out. I bought "unloaded" calipers. The loaded ones have all the braketry. Thanks
Trevor
My guess is "loaded" means with pads - for the brackets you'll probably only find those still on a '81 Cressida.
Cody 82 ZXT
My guess is "loaded" means with pads - for the brackets you'll probably only find those still on a '81 Cressida. Thats right loaded calipers usally don't have the brackets on them but, some vendors do send them with brackets but, they are kinda hard to find and can be costly. turbobluestreak
why is it that s30s can make use of a rear vented rotor with some mods and the s130s don't have jack crap unless you want to buy a $1000+ kit. If my winter project list wasn't so big already I would try to figure something out. tbs
v80z
Cody and Trevor I went to Advance Auto here. There is a bracket that bolts to the braket that I have installed. It also slides over the posts on the caliper. In my pics I show it for the MAxima calipers I have. The unloaded ones I bought did not come with it nor was it pictured at Advance. When I took them back the loaded caliper picture had them. They are being shippied to the house so I willlet you know exactly what happens. Thanks. Trevor
Glad you got the parts located. Keep us posted, I'm curious about how well this combination centers over the rotor. I guess single piston calipers are self-centering? What are you doing for a parking brake?
v80z
Ugh you had to ask. Dont know right now. I am interested in a setup I have seen that uses a small 2nd caliper.
turbobluestreak
could somebody please shoot me some measurements off of a maxima rotor? offset, diameter, thickness. tbs
blueovalz
I don't have them handy, but when you get them, consider this: I recently replace my rear rotors with some new ones that were about 1/2" larger. I cannot remember if they were 2000 Maxima, or 2000 Altima (I suspect Altima as they were 4 lug). The Altima rotors are identical to the Maxima as best as I could tell in offset and thickness. What all this means is that if you've got a small mismatch in the rotor diameter in regards to a caliper bracket, there are several diameters out there with all other things being equal. As best I remember, the thickness was about .9", diameter was about 10 3/4", and the offset was about 1 1/4" (outside of wheel face to outside of rotor face). It's a pretty common offset.
