Guest storyteller803
I know this subject has probably been worn out a hundred times, but I'm just not having enough luck searching for this. My 83zx nt I believe has a faulty ic module. I replaced the dizzy in Jan, but had a different module, so I had to use the old one. Now, it will fire sometimes, and sometimes not fire at all. My question is... I'm cosidering upgrading to a msd box. Does this unit replace the ic module or does it work with the ic module for longer sparks. Thanks for the insight. Mike C
MSD can be fired either way. Just using a magnetic pickup, or using a module. At least in some distributors. I wouldn't bet on you having any luck using the module as a trigger if yours won't fire correctly currently however. Go to MSD site and check out different ways of wiring up a 6A to a GM HEI. JMortensen
Eliminate the module. Then keep it in the glove box with the pigtail to run it and leave it there. If the MSD should fail its easy enough to put the module back on and run the ignition that way. Running both just gives you two modules in the system that could fail. I ran mine both ways, started using both modules and eventually eliminated the stock module and it ran fine either way.
Guest storyteller803
that answers my questions, thanks. I'll be ordering a msd 6l tonight. Going to be building a custom exaust over Christmas holidays. Hopefully have her purring again.
