Mike kZ
Sounds like a bitching engine! How much was it?
jaime240z
GEE. @ 450HP I would've slipped it the tounge. Sounds bad ass!
Guest Anonymous
it was expensive. around 8 grand. but ive been saving up for awhile. its also gonna be supercharged with a procharger soon, after i get the whole installation worked out. result should be 750 to 800 hp, with 50 more torque, and a 7300 redline. Its got forged lunati rods, JE pistons, and and aluminum intake manifold, to handle the supercharger. im so excited. i still have to remove the damn stock 240z engine. i need to call my slaves......i mean, friends, over. Phantom
So I guess this is a custom-custom engine by Agostino? I went to their web site and they don't list a 393 CI LS-1. They have a 382 and a 396. Is your's the 396? Is it configured the way the web site lists it? I noticed in an earlier post that you indicated that it had 12:1 compression. That is NOT an engine built to be boosted with a turbocharger or supercharger - nitrous yes but boosted - no. YOu will get very little bang for your buck trying to supercharge a 12:1 engine. As stated before, if you are really planning to boost it, you need to be down around 8:1. Not trying to rag on you but things aren't adding up. jeromio
Just one big suggestion: Get the thing in the car and drive it around for awhile Before you even consider a power-adder such as the blower. This is a 2500lb car. Without 12 inch slicks, your gas pedal is going to be useless.
Guest Anonymous
I understand all this, and the compression is hideously low. i told em itd be supercharged, and they said theyd take care of it. it has 8:5:1. as for the suggestion about driving it first, i certainly will, because i wont be able to afford the procharger for a couple months. it will, however, have 345 size tires in the back and 315's in the front. im gonna probably fabricate the flares myself, cuz i havent seen an anywhere that big. im trying to make this car have really insane grip. this is my first z project, but i used to have a porsche 914 with a 305 sbc, and similarly wide tires. i loved that car, but i want things like ac and more room, which the 914 didnt have. i sold it and my mercedes to finance this car. right now im riding around in a cheapo motorcycle. Guest Anonymous
Doodyhead, the only flares I've seen that are big enough to handle those tires are the GTU flares and since John Washington's company is out of the game now I don't know where you can find them. You might want to start reading Grassroots Motorsports and maybe you will find some in there.
Phantom
If you are going to drive it before putting the superchager on it then stand by to be disappointed. I don't think there is any way that LS-1 will develop 450 HP with 8.5:1 compression. Like I said before. This isn't adding up.
Guest zfan
With 8:5 to 1 you need to get the supercharger hooked up in a hurry as the car with that low a compression will be a dog. Now hook up that super charger and get out of the way. Talked to a guy with a LS1 with Lingenfelter intake set up and Vortec super charger in his 1999 camaro and he runs 9 to 1 and that car is scary fast. Oh he also has a 125 shot for grins. Guest Anonymous
well, pahntom, i guess i hadnt thought about that. agostino didnt do an engine dyno, and i assumed that because of the bore job they did and all that, i didnt think about compression, i just figured itd be the 396, and wouldnt really make a dif. maybe ill get that juice kit a little sooner!
