Silent
if a motor is balanced internally, the external dampner/crank pulley shouldn't affect it right? just me thinking again, since im going through my motor and checking the health of it, and swapping in some big nasty go fast goodies while im at it. to euro dampner or not to euro damnper, that is the question
JMortensen
Unless the balancer was adjusted as part of the balancing of the engine, you are correct.

Does an external damper effect a balanced crank assembly? Any rotating mass attached to the crank.....damper, flywheel and clutch assembies, will have an effect on the overall balance of the rotating parts. Think about it! When everything is assembled, they act as one unit when rotating....they all have mass and all have there own balance characteristics. JMortensen
Ideally the balancer and the flywheel are balanced independently of the rest. Those parts might need to be replaced at some point.
Silent
hmmmm, so i may have to hunt down a spare 2 v pulley then, because after reading some of the horror stories, i really don't feel like droppin another 3k on a bottom end again
Brad-ManQ45
Don't forget that the front damper is also responsible for dampening (gyroscopically) flex in the crankshaft, reducing loads on the front bearing. YOu could go lighter, but not nonexistent.
thehelix112
http://www.atiperformanceproducts.com/products/dampers/101/index.htm Good read IMHO. And I'm assuming everyone knows they sell a damper for the L28. Dave
73ZCAR
Helix, Do you have one of these? If so where did you get it, and how much? Mike.
thehelix112
Nah I don't have one sorry. I have a custom unit based on a BMW rubber dampener. I will be getting one at some point though. Dave
