I've got a short block 350 and anyone here in Houston shall know that you shouldn't have a daily driver her with out A/C. Two things that aren't on my car that I want on therer is A/C and power steering. Mostly because this is my daily and ONLY driver. Anyone in the Houston area knowledged enough to help me (mostly walk me through it while drinking the beer I provide) install these items. i.e. I've NEVER messed with an a/c unit, so I need to know all the parts I'm going to need to fab it from ground up. (Not to mention to make sure the heat works too. (and the ducts in the dash)

(can you tell I've never done it as I speak on it like it's gonna be a one day just drop and go type of thing)

Not to mention I want to see what it would take to get my power steering working. (oh yea... there's the whole thing about having to get the right belts and such too)

Of no on is in Houston that I can hook up with the someone point to good references (like detailed write ups or books). Although you just normally don't see a write up on how to add a/c and power steering.. lol.

I put AC in my sbc powered 76 280 but the car was already equiped with ac' date=' just had to change the compressor and adapt the lines. Not sure if I would be of any help or not.

Well you're a step up on me already. Most I've done with an a/c is point it out to show that it was either there or not.

Here is a top veiw of the Nissan pump mounted on the driver's side of the engine. All you need to do is fab up some simple C shaped brackets, and use the stamped steel Nissan bracket with some spacers.

Here you can see the gear box in the background. The pressure feed line runs down the frame rail, the wavy hose is the feed to the pump, and the other hose is the return from the box.

In this Picture you can see how I mounted the resevour(all i did was move it from the passenger side to the driver's side). You can also see how i mounted the alternator, and how i used one belt to run everything, if you have your alternator mounted on the drivers side this setup may not work.

Hope this helps.

Yes. The brackets on my AC mount were a bit light to start with and ended up much heavier to hadle vibration and belt tension flex. Pictures are in my album on this site. I'm sure the Z31 originally came with AC - correct? If so, it should have all the necessary components under the dash and you'll just need hoses, compressor and dryer under the hood?

Same with the power steering. You'll need the power steering pump and hoses and you should be in business. Not having seen the install, locating the compressor & dryer and the pump will most likely be the major challenge?

The C-shaped brackets should be made of much heavier material than what is shown. The set-up pictured will eventually fail due to vibration. Otherwise a great install.

Thanks, this setup works great, I agree about the brackets, i'll fab up some new ones when i get back home.
