FEnatic
Was following the threads earlier about different mounting methods of the 36-1 wheel, and was wondering if those press fits ones are working good. Also, someone was talking of making one out of steel that could be welded to the stock balancer, is this still in the works. Last question, went to the yards today, found plenty of Escorts and Explorers, but can someone tell me if I can just cut the wires, or do I need to pull the whole harness? Thanks
badjuju
Well, you can just cut the wires, and make your own harness, or use the existing harness. I plan on running my new harness all the way up to the vr sensor, just because i like a clean install. I am interested in this thread also. awesome quote btw. "he let me in on his plan to have sex with her in a very uncomfortable place." "what, like the back of a volkswagen?"
FEnatic
I was thinking of making my own harness too. My main concern though is how to mount the wheel that is soild enough. I think the press fit should be good, that is the way rings are mounted on flywheels, but would it stay put on the damper? Wasn't sure if anyone knew what my quote was from. z-ya
I'll be finishing mine tomorrow, so I will post some pics. I plan on machining the outer pulley in half, and then and leaving a ridge the new trigger wheel can fit over. I will either drill and tap some holes, or weld the trigger wheel on. Whatever metal the Ford wheels are made of, you can't TIG weld it. We are making a new trigger wheel from steel. There is a guy selling steel trigger wheels on msefi.com BTW,
sims76
I'm watching this post closely as I would like to convert from my magnet/hall setup to the toothed wheel as well. I don't have motivation other than just the exercise of doing it. Let us know how yours turns out.
sims76
By the way, check this site out for some more wheel options.... http://www.trigger-wheels.com/
mobythevan
I know this doesn't apply to the L28 engines, but for the chevy guys, you can by the EDIS 36-1 wheel with 2" center hole and then buy a supercharger 2 groove pulley with 2" center. Makes a nice bolt on setup for the EDIS on V8's.
Clifton
I'll be bolting mine on like this VW one. The sell all the EDIS stuff too. http://home.earthlink.net/~beanbooger/boost_engineering/

zane9000
I had a steel trigger wheel made for my car. It was about $40 or so. Very easy to drill. I used a 3 track 280zxt crank pully, but I unbolted the 6 bolts holding on the 3rd track and bolted the trigger wheel in its place. I havent started the car up yet, but that will be sometime next week. Ill let you guys know how it works out Pics are here: http://www.blucowtech.hopto.org/MyDocs/Media/My%20Pictures/carprojects/EDIS/
