JaysZ
would there be any? would the decrease in back pressure cause damage to the engine or any other parts? just curious since this is how my car is currently setup.
getZ
Your engine shouldn't have any problems so long as you have at least 3 or 4 feet of pipe to keep cool air from back flowing into the head, but the local police my have a problem with it. ProjectSR20
I have run straight pipes for years on several different cars and never hada single problem. getZ is right too.... make sure you have enough pipe on there. Also about the cops, I have gotten pulled over several times because I was "TOO" loud.
JaysZ
i was actually surprised, but it wasn't as loud as i expected it to be. i might just be going deaf though lol. it definately sounds good to me. i left a section of pipe right before the diff and it is dumped right there. would that be long enough? i'll eventually run a new pipe from the header to the back when time allows. Guest 73TPIZ
I run homemade cable operated double dumps a foot or so after the X-pipe. The quiet part exits off of 1 side just after the X and goes through a super restrictive muffler w/ a 1.5" exit (everyone thinks that wimpy tailpipe must be fake). Anyway 8 tenths and ~7mph slower thru the muffler in the quarter. I wondered the same as you if I'd be a tenth or so faster w/ some backpressure but too happy w/ the setup to change. Best feeling in the world is cleaning the tires and staging w/ them closed and opening them just before the tree comes down. Love that sound. On second thought, it's the second best feeling but this is a family website.:) Later,
Some-Guy
heh I love straight pipes, my Z is going to be piped..ill have the pipe run from the turbo down and exit just behind the front wheel not sure which one yet where ever there is the most space just enough pipe so it doesnt dump into the engine bay... I was also surprized how quiet it is through a turbo a friend of myne had the same setup on a fairmont and it wasnt as loud as you would expect from a v8 the turbo actualy muffled it ABIT not much but enough to be drivable I would imagine it helps it spool up faster as there is basically no back presure..
