OlderThanMe
I think I'll call this color chocolate drop...it's growing on me...
big-phil
I still have not buffed mine. I had a run in with some re-tread on the highway, so I get to re-glass a crack on the airdam, and fix a crack in the fender/headlight bucket area. I filled it, but I think I need to spot weld, fill, smooth, paint. Then I will buff, or sand? That red looks great!!
OlderThanMe
I say get a bunch of 600 grit from home depot and wetsand. Then polish (buff) it up. The 400 is slightly too aggressive for the final sanding. Your car is going to be astounding Phil. I would say go ahead and do your hood since it is not connected to the rest of the car. You will be amazed. Get some good buffing compound as the aluminium polish is just a tinge rough for paint plus it does not go very far. Ferd/289
I am coming into this post a little late. I did a search to get come background on this post. Am I right in assuming that 'rolling paint' means that you are applying rustoleum with a roller?? What post can I look at to see whole story? Looks like a great job. BlackBeaut
Got to admit I'm impressed with this method, particularly the price!! One question though, what happens about the fiddly bits like the drip gutter and around the quarter windows? Cheers, Rob
OlderThanMe
here is the original hybridZ thread that has a link to the moparts thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=107977&highlight=rustoleum Yes I use a 2 inch wide high density foam roller. They are about a dollar each. The small areas can be painted with a foam hand "brush" that is about 2 inches wide. They use this kind of brush in kindergarden activities... So THAT'S where I went wrong...I kept getting carded at Wal-mart when i was buying spray cans. I guess you have to be 18 to get high on fumes or write graffitti now. OlderThanMe
exactly... but then I read on the side of the can today while I was putting down another coat of paint and it said this paint is leaded...8-0 I guess you don't want to remove this paint with an orbital sander...some stripping liquid should be used. They don't hastle you with rustoleum. I changed to a different color today...the chocolate turned into a slightly purple color...go figure. I made a more red version and it looks good. I think I am becoming the master of rustoleum...
